So he's chosen as his Chief of Staff someone who was very much in bed with Freddie and Fannie; on his economy team is the governor of a state that's in economic shambles.

Yes, this will work out really well.

Change. That's all we'll have left in our pockets.

What do you mean 'in bed with'? Freddie and Fannie are corporations and so, even given their legal status as persons, there is no way they could have been in bed on their own let alone with each other or Emanuel. If you want to say something, say something specific (and post a link too); otherwise you are just blowing wind. The name of his chief of staff is Rep. Rahm Emanuel. Name the person and state that you are referring to.

Babble - yes this will convince that you have a solid grasp of politics.

Change is more that Bush has left in the pockets of our children.

One thing proposed in here which is EXTREMELY STUPID is the Windfall Profit Tax.

Obama still plans to carry this out!

The results:
Raising the price of gas back up,affecting the price of goods and services, nullifying the effect of the rebate.

Charging said taxes to corporations and those over a specific income level..

Folks...if a company is taxed on profit, they pass that tax on to the consumer in the form of higher prices!

Windfall Profit Tax = EXTREMELY STUPID IDEA!!!!

You think the economy is bad now! Wait till this goes through!!!! It's going to have a spiral effect! Oil Companies and corporations taxed by this will pass it on to YOU in the form of higher prices...MARK MY WORDS!!!! THIS IS A DANGEROUSLY STUPID IDEA!!!!

We are marking your words.
This is the first time I have seen you actually posting an opinion.
You need to do a little research on economics, taxes, inelasticity of pricing.
We get the hint - you do not think it is a good idea but it is not dangerous nor stupid. Do some research on a site that does not use too many 'bangs' (!), bad caps, or thoughtless name calling.

I have been looking for that tape - someone said that the kids looked so cute. I got the vague hint that the 3 together made a set.

I am not sure of the point about Oprah but it sure seems spurious; trying to belittle Obama by not capitalizing his name, capitalizing hers, and implying that he could not have won without her. Pure crap.

So let me go to the other side and ask: would McCain have lost on his own or did he need Palin's help?

What two weeks without a president are you referring to?

It's a bad joke, the inauguration is on the 20th, Bush's term ends on 12/31 so that is almost 3 weeks w/o a sworn in president.

GrimJack 1,414 Posting Maven Featured Poster

Oddly (interestingly) enough, the Electoral College never meets as a body so that it can not become a "faction" or controlling body.

GrimJack 1,414 Posting Maven Featured Poster

The Constitution allows each state legislature to designate a method of choosing electors. Forty-eight states and the District of Columbia have adopted a winner-take-all popular vote rule where voters choose between statewide slates of electors pledged to vote for a specific presidential and vice presidential candidate. The candidate that wins the most votes in the state wins the support of all of that state’s electors. - The two other states, Maine and Nebraska, use a tiered system where a single elector is chosen within each Congressional district and two electors are chosen by statewide popular vote.

The Federalist Papers are an interesting read; they go through much of the reasoning behind the why of many of the choices made in the Constitution and Bill of Rights, including the fear of the "the faction... a large minority, who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adverse to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community." Madison's Federalist Papers #9&10 cover the reasoning quite well.

Who is the bugaboo of the House of Representatives? Pelosi from California; who is the bugaboo from the senate? Clinton from New York. Those 2 states are not where certain religious people think the US should be controlled from (constrained grammar, sorry). The bible belt does not agree with the politics of California, mostly

GrimJack 1,414 Posting Maven Featured Poster

If there were 100 million voters in CA and 100 million voters in NY and a 100 million overs in the rest of the US, a 1 person - 1 vote would mean 2 states would control the destiny of the US; the electoral system requires that the candidates at least pretend that the rest of the country exists.

GrimJack 1,414 Posting Maven Featured Poster

The Electoral College was set up by land-owners who were afraid that the land-less city-folk would steal the country from its real rulers. It is carried on because the flyover states are afraid California and NewYork will steal the country from its true rulers.

Some are just worried that some cult will take control of the country - tyranny of masses.

If someone wins in California by 2 votes, they get all of California's electoral votes. If the other side wins in New York by 10 million votes they get all of New York's electoral votes.

Pro-choice is pro-abortion in my opinion. There is no in between. You're either pro-life or pro-death.

Your opinion - that is why there is choice - not everyone chooses to believe what you believe.

What lies are you talking about?

From the beginning of the video "... if Obama had his way, I would be dead"

He DID vote for infanticide. (In 2002, he voted "NO" to protect newborns. A part of the Born Alive Infant Protection Package that protected infants after a failed abortion attempt, Senate Bill 230). That is infanticide.

Illinois already has a law against killing living persons - he voted against that bill because it had no allowances for health of mother or incest or rape.

In 1997 he voted yes to allow partial-birth abortions. (Senate Bill 1661)
In 2000 he voted yes to allow state funding of abortion and induced miscarriages. (House Bill 709)

Correct, he supports choice.

Talking about making a statement, I heard on Public Radio that lots of Americans travel to England to spit on the grave of Charles Darwin.

So these people spit on the floor of a christian church? Sounds sort of typically bizarre American behavior. Probably no more bizarre that the Brits who buried him in a christian church.

Obama's Voting Record
Obama defends Roe vs. Wade.
He is pro-choice... which means he is pro-abortion.
Where did you hear that he was against abortion? Everyone knows his stand on this issue. He voted for infanticide. I posted a video about this on another thread.

Yeah, you posted a video that opened with a lie and continued to lie all the way through. Posting lies is not supporting your position very well.
He did not vote for infanticide - that is a lie.
He is pro-choice - that is not pro-abortion.
He defends Roe v Wade because Roe v Wade supports his pro-choice view.
Here are some the bills he sponsored.
I looked at your link and it did not actually show his voting record; it just commented on what they thought his record was (but then so is my link).

I'm not a religionist (which isn't even a word) and I am not a racist (I am multiracial myself!). I just simply like McCain better than Obama because I agree with his stand on most issues. Again, this has NOTHING to do with religion or race. This is about politics.
And I don't really care if you think that what I said is "inappropriate" because it is just a catchy slogan. No big deal. Honestly.

Thank you, I was judging you on the amount of respect you offered for the 2 candidates, using the last names for both seems a sign of respect. The term 'religionist' is a word; sometimes used in the manner I used it and sometimes used in differently in different contexts.

Vote McCain NOT Hussein.

Are you a religionist saying that it is better to vote for McCain because he is a Christian and you think obama is not?
OR
Are you racist suggesting it is better to vote for McCain because he is white and Obama is not?

Using a last name for one candidate and a middle name for another candidate in the same sentence SEEMS to imply one or the other of the above statements. If it does not, them please tell me how it is an appropriate way to speak of a US Senator and candidate for President.

What's all the fuss about god or no god! Evolution or creationism.

The fuss is that people are interested in the discussion.

We are all chemical reactions! I must admit it is a complex chemical reaction.
What can a chemical reaction say about evolution?

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

We are by the fact that we are.

Part of what we are is an inquisitive species.

We need oxigen and other chemicals
Stop delivering them so will stop our chemical reaction and we say we die!
Anyone out there ever survived 20 minutes under water? For example.

How does this apply to the question at hand?

You can influence your chemical reaction by taking in a simple chemical compound : C2H5OH. Wich proves(no theory! anyone can do this, preferably at home) that you are chemical.

This proves nothing; it implies 'you are because you drink' but that is a sophomoric solipsism.

As I briefly alluded in a previous post - there does not appear to be anything in your post that argues for any side of the current question. So again I ask "if you are not going to add to the discussion, why are you posting?"

If you think your statements take a position, please expand on them to show how they are relevant. Then there can be discussion.

GrimJack 1,414 Posting Maven Featured Poster

That's not what I was implying. I'm saying, these types of questions have already been brought up in an earlier thread (more than once).

Creationism is my answer.

These types of questions have been brought up in earlier threads; if it was not an interesting question, no one would reply to it. This topic reared its head in a Holloween thread at this response, a mod said that it would be okay to continue the discussion 'in thread' but folks complained about hijacking so I started this thread. It was going to be 'should Evolution be taught in school' but I decided to make it a little more general.

The question is actually the title of this thread so throwing 'creationism' in is not an answer because it does not actually address the question. So if you wanted to divert the thread you should offer some discussion.

GrimJack 1,414 Posting Maven Featured Poster

for those of you who are fairly new, you may want to look at

http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread74236.html

the whole idea of god, evolution, and creationism was explored in detail

shame i cant unlock it, i aint a mod of it, would be good to merge it with this

Oh, yeah - I enjoyed that thread but like the mod said, if we want to continue this discussion - start another thread.

Duh!

The reason that thread was locked was it was 37 pages long and there were not many people who wanted to read the whole thing but there were people who would say - we covered that, read the thread.

That thread was constantly revived because there will always be people who are interested in expressing their views on the topic. If people lose interest, the thread will die.
