I've read some post about tips on how a proper SEO would do and I notice this "Traffic Benchmarking" on the list. Can anyone explain this to me?

I've got an adwords setup, keyword being "Hospital bed mattresses" When i used the keyword estimator tool, it showed 2,400 local searches. This past month, there have been about 5 impressions.... This doesnt make sense. Am I doing something wrong? Its position is averaging between 1-3....
