Nicotine causes a central paralysing effect upon the brain and the central nervous system and as a result of absorption, acts upon different organs such as heart, eyes and intestinal tract, leading to death.

Now if this doesn't make you want to quit smoking, I don't know what will.

I know. Nicotine will take care of you.

you got told........

Well if you smoke enough cigarettes at once, you can die due to an overdoes of nicotine.
But only an idiot would try that.
Also why did they start to put nicotine in them?
Yes i do know it is an addictive agent, but why?
Wasn't smoking tobacco in pipes good enough for people?

Nicotine is a natural ingredient of the Tobacco plant and functions as an insecticide. Maybe the smokers ought to try some other insecticides, readily available at your local garden store.

Nicotine is fairly toxic. According to:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco
A discarded cigarette butt can contain enough nicotine to kill a small child or animal!

A discarded cigarette butt can contain enough nicotine to kill a small child or animal!

Would that not indicate, though, that the individual who smoked and then discarded the cigarette didn't get very much of the nicotine within it themself?

And about those dosage factors: Assuming a direct scaleup from rat mass to human mass, and an equivalent percentage scaleup from the rat dose, what would be the equivalent human dosage?

>Would that not indicate, though, that the individual who smoked and then discarded the cigarette didn't get very much of the nicotine within it themself?

Good point, it must therefore not be evenly distributed along the cigarette.

I dont think it would kill a small child but there is respected research that secondhand smoke can lead to cot death

Does it have to be cigarette smoke, or would, say, secondhand fireplace smoke serve as well?

Does it have to be cigarette smoke, or would, say, secondhand fireplace smoke serve as well?

Oohhh, yeah, those filthy old fireplaces.. loitering about homes and smoking away with not a care in the world about the non-smokers! The nerve of those things!! :@

Does it have to be cigarette smoke, or would, say, secondhand fireplace smoke serve as well?

That's different.

Totally different.
Fireplace smoke burns coal usually and therefore CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) is the bi-product at the end, along with soot, which is just a plain annoying.
While Cigarette smoke is full of CO (Carbon Monoxide) which is more potent and deadly than CO2.
Chemistry A @ GCSE, it serves me well! :P

commented: Yay for research. Lol. +8

actually regular fires have a lot of CO too, thats why you must get your boiler serviced and not do something dumb like have an indoor bbq

its the tar and nicotene thats bad for you

... and not do something dumb like have an indoor bbq

In general, not doing something dumb figures greatly into longevity.

you would be amazed the amount of people ho would do something like that

some builders killed themselves near us by running a petrol generator indoors

Sadly, no, I would not be amazed. I never underestimate the capacity of people to get themselves killed doing foolish things.

Hamada_1990 you are going back to your old habits of writing.
Just a friendly remainder. :)

Why do you say that? If secondhand campfire smoke is just as dangerous as secondhand tobacco smoke, and if secondhand tobacco smoke should not be tolerated, why should campfire smoke?

Why do you say that? If secondhand campfire smoke is just as dangerous as secondhand tobacco smoke, and if secondhand tobacco smoke should not be tolerated, why should campfire smoke?

But it's not as dangerous. At all.
Do you ever hear about people dying due to overexposure of campfire smoke?

because of the fact that campfires are outside so you arent forced to inhale its smoke

Do you ever hear about people dying due to overexposure of campfire smoke?

I don't think people camp enough to die of campfire smoke like they do of cigarette smoke. ;)

I think many would consider that a debatable statement. Your anecdotal evidence may be working against your argument.

But it's not as dangerous. At all.
Do you ever hear about people dying due to overexposure of campfire smoke?

Did you ever hear of people dying due to overexposure of second-hand tobacco smoke?

1) What's with westside? 2) This thread has already proven that second hand smoke is harmful. 3) I doubt you know more on the topic than the doctors. 4) Why would doctors be lying? If anything they would tell you to smoke so you have to go to them later and they can help with the damages made to your body, fattening their paychecks.

Did you ever hear of people dying due to overexposure of second-hand tobacco smoke?

Yeah, we covered this already.

Did you ever hear of people dying due to overexposure of second-hand tobacco smoke?

Yes, we've proven that, remember?
