Transperant background image

I was wondering if anyone knows how to create a transparent background image?
just a small example or something.

Use Photoshop if you have it. Or paint.net - free Photoshop like software. It isn't at paint.net (oddly enough). It's here.

Create your image, say 250 x 150. Make a blank layer. Delete the background layer so it's totally transparent. Save it as a .gif or .png.

Theres also a pyhton way of doing it, but ok, iif that serves your needs. :)

I'm a visual web designer. I use CSS transparency options for transparent divs, but if there's a way to code it, please tell. It sounds interesting.
