Hi mallick,
first of all gain some basic knowledge regarding image segmentation using books and articles. if possible get some IEEE papers on this subject and read'em.

coming to programming thing.
there are plenty of frameworks available for image processing
like aforgenet.com, opencv, ImageMagik and ImageJ. lot more...

try download some and practise them some require knowlwdge of c or c++
some require java or c#...

so along with the subject (image processing) try to learn using a programming language also...
