Hi there-

You will prolly be served well by looking at the ImageMagick toolkit (www.imagemagick.com)-

Caveat:
IMHO, the Perl IF to the thing is buggy as all get-out... I prefer to just use a shell-ex3ec to the cmd-line Imagemagick tool, which I've never had a problemn with.
