Excel reading problem using PHP

Hai,
I want to read excel file and store the data into mysql.
my excel file contains special symbols like ∫,Ω,√ ... (all physics formulas).
I used phpexcelreader from pear.but this symbols are not reading correctly. it shows as rectangle box.
please provide a solution for this to resolve.
