Can anyone reccommend any good books to learn php and mysql and how to build database driven websites. I have looked at a few but dont want to buy an outdated book!

I have some of PacktPub, I can recommend them. One of them is about building a CMS. If you are looking at the other titles, be sure to check the release date.
