on korean games I noticed that you always have to start the game through the website.
First I want to know why they do it that way? Only to gain traffic?
And second how can I do that too? Is it even possible with php?
I couldnt find anything on google.

You don't need PHP for this. To interact directly with software, instead, in Windows you can use the COM objects: http://php.net/manual/en/book.com.php
