I am having index.php file in portal/index.php . My question is: why if I only type portal/ in the url. Is not the file in index.php file that plays instead another file that I have deleted before.
The only file that exist in the portal/ is index.php other files are folders.
This is defined by server configuration, if using Apache this can be declared also in the .htaccess context, for example:
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php
