If that’s your thing, there’s nothing illegal or wrong with porn. Lots of people watch it, right?

A porn website is definitely on the seedier side of the web, but there’s a lot of money in it and it’s completely legal income. I know a handful of different people, some whom I consider some of my very closest friends, who all made a very sizable income streams off of porn websites back in the late 1990s and early 2000s. I think I once heard a story that porn pretty much funded the development of the World Wide Web back in the day.

When I was first starting out DaniWeb, and needed money for server bills, I did some freelance web development work for a porn site’s vBulletin forum. I’m not going to name any names because the technical lead on the project is incredibly successful today in a much less seedier business.

But people follow the money. And there’s a lot of money in porn. More than any other industry on the web, I believe.

Nowadays I would say it’s probably much, much tougher because there’s just so much competition in the space now, and I’ve been told people can find virtually anything they want for free with PornHub. It’s like the YouTube of the porn world or something. (I think?)

I heard some people saying the next big thing is going to be immersive porn with 360 degree 3D porn through the Oculus, but wearing heavy headgear isn’t too sexy. So I think there will need to be an evolution in physical devices before that can happen. But whomever can figure out the technical side to up the ante on what’s already out there is going to be a very, very wealthy individual indeed.

Good luck.

It's a bit bad and possibly something you wouldn't openly mention to your friends or include in a CV. I was once introduced at a sports club to a friend of a friend who ran porn sites and he had brought along a couple of his "employees" for a drink in our bar. They were actually quite pleasant people with a great sense of humour, but we suspected he had brought along the more sensible "employees". But as Dani says, porn sites are a way to earn money.

However many normal webhosts have terms and conditions that explicitly say no porn sites. So you might have to use a private server and explain to the supplier what it being used for, in case they close it down later on.

Dani also said that in the early days porn helped kick start the internet. Many sites existed (and still do) for free samples with more images etc available for subscribers, so they developed securer systems to stop people getting into the subscribers' areas without paying. Several times I read on web development sites that porn sites actually had much better security in general than many other sites, as they had to make free sections open to anyone but also had to justify the subscriber sections' fees by making them secure.

One way I suspect the free samples sites work is they are actually being supplied with images and videos from several subscriber only sites - ie they are working as advertisers for other companies and so can just provide links to their clients' sites and leave the security to these clients themselves. This would probably mean the free sites don't have to bother about creating any of the porn and what it would cost in model and photographer fees. And don't get accused of stealing copyright images - just because you see something on the web does NOT mean it is free to use and in the public domain.

How to create such a site?
Collect lots of images and videos, but avoid stealing them or you will end up being sued. Try contacting subscriber only sites and get images in exchange for links back to their sites. Put images into sets, probably by model and have subsets for the model's work or photo sessions. Or by subscriber site, then models and then subsets. Put teaser images on the home page with links the each model's collection page, which has links to the subsets. The subsets would have smaller images for faster loading and clicking on an image would start a slideshow related to that subset. The subset page would have a link to the supplier of the images, pointing at that model. And thus you earn money advertising other sites. Perhaps earning via a pay per click link to their site or perhaps only getting paid if the visitor takes out a subscription.

I would suspect that a subscriber only site would want to see a simpler non-porn site that you had built with a similar structure to what I've suggested, so that they know you can actually create a site, and are not just trying to build a private collection for yourself for free.

And you'd probably have to pay a bigger free sample site to include links from adverts back to your site to get enough traffic to make some money.

Whatever the website you want to create you should know some basic things. There are two ways to create a website actually. One is using CMS or SASS and another is HTML. But not all SASS website not support pornography. And also not every hosting company also support pornography. So if you want to create like this website you should ask the hosting company do they support like this content.
Then you have to choose whether you want to use CMS or HTML. CMS always has some limitation but can customize also. However, it's totally depends on your content and volume. If the content so much like thousands then it must be good to use HTML to create from basic.
