for the past few days i have been unable to make my optical drive read discs or do anything other than cause the computer to freeze. i have tried the drive with multiple different sata cables and in another computer, the drive works fine on the other computer but is unresponsive in my own. i dont use the drive very often so i am unsure as to when it stopped funtioning on my current build but at the moment the install of windows is a clean one, that was installed using it. typically what happens when i try to use …

While copying a big batch of files to a DVD this msj appeared: "This DVD-ROM drive is read only. You can copy files to this writable DVD but you must insert it into a writable drive". It *is* a writable drive. It has written happily to DVDs before and since. The disc was a DVD-RW, and it has received files before and since. I told it to skip files as appropriate, and it eventually finished the transfer after a fashion. Trouble is, you can't be sure it has copied *all* the files when this happens. I've searched the Net and …

Hello fellows, I have some files which consists a setup program worth 11.1 gb in size. I want to burn these files into multiple dvds. For example, 3 dvds having size of 4.7gb OR 2 dvds one can be 8.5gb in size and another one can be 4.7gb in size. Moreover, i want to burn these in continuous manner. So that during installation when dvd1 is finished, the pc will ask for next dvd in order to continue. I tried using winrar to create the archive in 4.3gb sizes but in this case, during installation, i will have to first …

Hello everyone, My dvd burner is playing up. It has got progressively worse and is now rendering discs unusable every time I try to use it. Even with a new/valid DVD, Windows Backup gets to about 85% and then reports errors on the disc. On loading some discs the progress bar in WinEx goes into slow motion, and Win refuses to format it. Sometimes I can Erase a disc and then it allows me to attempt to Format. The format proceeds to "5 seconds remaining" and then "Windows was unable to complete the Format". All these things happen across several …

Hi, I have a workout called Insanity and I want to extract the music from the audio from the DVDs. When you start the workout, you can choose to do the workout with or without the music. When you don't choose to play the music, the video is the exact same as the version with the music. So I know that the songs are stored on the DVD but I don't know to get them. Any solutions?

I used iDVD to create a DVD with menu that is perfect for the job. Thing is, I can't seem to get a high res finished product. I saved this as professional quality but the TS outcome lost some major quality. I can't view it on a 1900 X 1640 res screen without it pixelating. I then tried to convert the project file through Roxio's Toast but it just isn't doing it. I might consider to pay someone to simply create a high quality DVD out of my dvdproject file. I really can't afford to burn up anymore time with …

I currently have a problem where DVD's will not output any audio to the front speakers of my 5.1 surround sound unless something else is also sending audio there. For example, I watch a scene with lots of dialogue but I only have the background audio. If I open up my audio test at during this time and click on a front speaker to test, the test audio plays and I can also hear the audio from the DVD which should be coming from the front speakers (the speech). This problem happens in every DVD playing software used. I have …

I am having trouble with my PC. The tip of the iceberg is an inocuous message which displays everytime I launch iTunes, as below: "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD-burning software. Please re-install iTunes." I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes twice now but to no avail. I suspect the problem relates, as it indicates, to other software that I have used. I have previously installed and used Handbrake, DVDVideoSoft Free studio, and no doubt others that I can no …

Hello! My issue is that I have to disc readers. One DVD RW and the other a CD RW. I have to slots for them, I plugged them both in, power cables and connector cables. Howeverm the computer only reads that there is a CD RW drive in it. I switched around the Master, Slave, Cable Select configuration, however, no cigar. Any suggestions as to the configuration. (I finally got a half-solution by only plugging in the DVD-ROM drive, which is the one I most need. However, I'd like to be able to use both!) Thanks in advance!

Hi Although my PC detects my disc drives and can play from them when I try to write to the RW drive I get a message "No disc detected". I am using Roxio Creator LE Dell Edition. I have cleaned the laser carefully using methylated spirits and a surgically clean cotton bud. The Dell drive is the oringinal circa 2006. I might just as well have binned the crive and bought a new one rather than bother to clean it. But is something that I could do to check the drive before scapping it? Thanks Geoff

Ive got a bunch of VOB (mp2) files from DVDs - far too many to transcode to, say, H.264 format), plus i dont want to lose any quality. I want to be able to stream these from my (linux) server. What software do I need?

Hello! I'm posting this because I have looked all over Google and tried multiple programs and am yet to find what I'm looking for. All I want is to take DVD files(VOB files from the VIDEO_TS folder of a DVD) and rip them to my computer in .AVI or any easily playable format, then burn them to a disk when ever I need to. I've tried numerous software, but either they will only burn some weird format to DVD or they can't rip the multiple VOB files to my computer in a playable format. I don't mind buying software if …

I'm running Arch Linux on my computer and I found a Toshiba External SuperMulti Drive. Model: PA37610-1DV2 I plug it in and it doesn't work. Doesn't even detect it. The reason I'm using it is it's faster than my internal drive and my internal drive doesn't burn dual-layer. So... Any ideas to get this to work?

Alright, I concede that I need some expert help with this one. I've spent hours on Google just to find suggestions that don't work or make the problem worse. Here's the scoop. I filmed a movie for a drama class I was teaching, and then used the Windows movie maker to put the project together. After having to convert the files and recreate the project twice, I managed to get the project published onto my external hard drive. However, when I try to use the Windows DVD Maker that came with Vista to create a dvd copy, it stopped at …

All seems well until the actual burn when about about half way through when Nero says ' Aborted' and ejects the DVD. Have saved the original recording to hard drive and tried various suggestions but just getting in more of a muddle. Any ideas appreciated. Running XP. Thanks Guys.

Just bought a HP y6644p with Windows 7. DVD drive worked fine for a week, and then today it disappeared. I put in a CD and it wouldn't play. When I clicked on My Computer, the E drive was missing. I've run FixIt, Recovery Manager, and done numerous searches on the internet. None of the remedies have worked. I even did a system restore. What next? Thanks!

My Lenovo Laptop has XP-Pro and has developed a problem of not recognizing CD or DVD when inserted. The drive is Optiarc AD-75605. It used to work fine. I have reinstalled the system from scratch but no change. I ran Mats_Run.dvd as recommended by Microsoft and uninstalled/auto installed the device drivers but still not working. When I use Nero for burning Video, it keeps coming up with the windows to insert the blank media even though I have the media inserted. However, if I put the system in standby while it is looking/searching for the media and then wake up …

These days, video game consoles aren't just for video games anymore. There's a CD, DVD and Blu-Ray player, internet, Twitter, Facebook, chat and more. But don't you wish you could watch MOVIES? Oh, wait, you can. Think the way you watch movies on your console is good enough? One company challenges consumers to think again. FlicStick Corp announced today that they will be releasing their patent pending "FlicStick Movie System." For me, that name means slapping obnoxious people with a ruler when they talk during my movie. For you, that could mean a new way to watch your favorite flicks. …

Hey guys, I am having some issues with my PC. My main drive with my OS is SATA, as well as my DVD-RW. As of this morning, I received a "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" message when trying to turn on my computer. I checked my BIOS and the drive is not visible. I then tried to install the OS again on a new drive temporarily but my DVD-RW is not registering either. It is almost as if both SATA devices are not responding. I am using a Gigabyte motherboard with a Seagate 500GB hard drive …

I just burned a data DVD backup around 2.5 GB without an issue, and I'm able to burn data or audio CD's all day with no problem. If, however, I try to burn a video DVD, the DVD burn completes successfully (no error messages from multiple software packages including Nero, AVS, et al), but the DVD will never play more than about 12 minutes. If I look at the back of the DVD, I can clearly see an area where where it appears the laser simply skipped over while writing. The "blank" area is about 1/4" wide and begins just …
