Cop shows that include a 5 minute foot chase. This is usually the result of the cops shouting out a suspect's name from half a block away instead of waiting until they are within arm's reach. Inevitably the suspect runs into the path of a car or truck and the chase ends up being pointless anyway. Cop shows where six cops burst in the front door of an apartment/house but neglect to post anyone at the fire escape/back door which is the only other exit. This leads to another pointless (and prolonged) foot chase. Shows where a victim is being …

So, today is '[World Paper Free Day](http://www.aiim.org/events/paper-free-day)' apparently and I'm not sure whether it's appropriate to buy a card in the circumstances. Joking aside, what I am sure of is that such Hallmark days do provide an opportunity for press releases to be thrown in my general direction. And so it was that yesterday one pops into my inbox proclaiming "Paper revealed as the top threat to information security." What rot! I just had a problem with my computer here at work and I knew the problem and solution straight away but I do not have sufficient privileges to fix the error on my account so I had to contact IT to get it done. It's taken the guy who came up to fix it over an hour to find the solution. I tried to tell him what to do but each time he just said "that won't work" and, you guessed it, his final solution what what I had been telling him all along. It just frustrates me how I …

In what has to rank as one of the most surprising outbursts of the summer, the BBC reports how the president of the British Cartographic Society has blasted online maps and accused them of "demolishing thousands of years of history." The remarkable rant took place at the Institute of British Geographers conference in London. During her speech, Mary Spence is said to have taken aim at Internet mapping services for "wiping the rich geography and history of Britain off the map." The argument appears to be that while online maps are great for driving directions, they suck when it comes …
