I didn't pay for FSD but it's been offered again as another demo period. I'll always try it out to see if they have made progress.

The Sun still can blind it and cause it to turn control back to the driver. Because I have One Pedal Driving enabled the last time it did that the car rolled to a stop in the middle of the road. There was no dividing line so there it was, middle of the road with a screen telling me to assume control.

BUT in a first I've ever seen it, it was able to fully go from market to home, pull into the driveway and stop. The sequence of HUMAN or user actions was to tap navigate, tap home then press on brake pedal, shift to reverse and release the brake pedal. Not entirely automated but full self driving has improved short of the Sun blinding issue.

Mind you that on purpose I did not tinker with initial FSD settings which to me is important it work straight out of the driveway and not require me to tinker.

The driving was what I'd expect from 100 year old humans. Not very aggressive and a few miles per hour below the speed limit.

Hope folk find this interesting.

It sounds like we are still at a point where the driver needs to remain consistently alert, which is tough for me with my really bad brain fog.

In other news, Waymo is available in my area. :)

Tesla, I assume? If they can reduce the cost of the tech used in Waymo cars, I suspect it would be the dominant tech.

While we're on that topic, META is not going to give up 10% of its income over scams.

Meta projected 10% of its 2024 revenue would come from ads for scams and banned goods, documents seen by Reuters show. And the social media giant internally estimates that its platforms show users 15 billion scam ads a day. - Reuters

I think that it's okay if a small percentage of ads are for scams, etc. as long as Meta is genuinely making a concerted effort to take down as many as they possibly can find. Based on your Reuters quote, it seems as if it's something on their radar that they are working ot address. In other words, I have to give it more thought, but my first instinct is that I don't think I necessarily agree that Meta should be fined for the ones that slip through the cracks.

We live in a world where those big tech companies can get away with almost anything, while medium/small companies must play by the book. And by the way, where did I put those $16 billion I had yesterday? They must have "slipped through the cracks." Never mind, no big deal.

I'm one to believe that what's good for the goose is good for the gander. I don't think that DaniWeb should be fined for any disallowed posts that slip through the cracks of our moderation team.

UPDATE! From home to the Airport and back. UPDATE!

"This is new." After putting in the destination the begin driving button LIT UP without the need to put the machine in gear.

This is a very big deal and important to the mobility challenged.

  1. Home to air port with just me taking control at the terminal because we weren't sure if it was going to stop at the intended drop off point. Didn't want to chance it.
  2. Air port to parking spot at home without incident. Mind you it's 5AM so little traffic.
  3. To help with the old person driving profile we kicked the FSD setting to MAD MAX which actually felt a bit more human.

That's the update. Not as many steps for the human to get from point A to B.

One last thing. There are issues with the camera behind the rear view mirror. In many TSLA's the glass has accumulated something that obscures the view. There's a note on screen to arrange for service. I'll look into that soon.

That's because you're not a college kid being fined for running your hobby forum that you're paying for with your minimum wage side job.

I believe Waymo uses 4 lidar sensors, 6 radar sensors, 13 cameras, and an array of external audio sensors (I guess in case anyone screams before being hit?).

Audio sensors are important to hear sirens, etc. That being said, my friend mentioned the other day that he was in a Waymo and it drove right through a construction site, ignoring the construction workers who were redirecting traffic. And then there's the matter of the Waymo, not comprehending a sense of danger, driving right through an active police scene.

Sorry for the typo. The scam ads brought in 16 billion USD.

Crime should not pay this well. So the punishment here would be 16 billion, not 6 billion and certainly not letting the company keep the money.

Then again, we are not talking fines here. Just removing the profit incentive.

More airport trips and "I'm Not Sure" how to set the destination to the arrivals or departure areas.

"Autopilot" was pretty well accepted for what it was. But FSD was IMO always oversold. Even with what I'm seeing today I don't know where to put it on "The 6 Levels of Vehicle Autonomy".

FSD did a freak out once so far but changed its mind and remained in control.

  1. To avoid ROARING into the driveway, set the driving mode to CHILL.
  2. Today's update refines parking location at home. You can now pick Street, Driveway, etc.
  3. After the road hazard problem that destroyed a TSLA the road hazard detection is improved.
  4. Along with setting the driving mode to CHILL, same goes for MAD MAX mode. Use a lower setting to avoid a rough parking experience.
