I'm familiar with the expression. I meant how is "nick of time" different from "when I want to use it"? Like my former boss saying, "I don't expect you to be on call 24x7, but I do expect you to come in when you are needed, whenever that may be."

Back when I was running DaniPad, my coworking space in NY, we were in a lot of desk-on-demand and conference room-on-demand directories such as LiquidSpace, etc. We ended up having to turn down a lot of business because we weren't set up to accomodate last minute/same day conference room rentals and bookings. The majority of coworking spaces, to the best of my knowledge, are able to accommodate walk-ins during business hours. Regus is able to offer last minute walk-ins in most of their locations across the US, and they do have a few hundred locations in the UK as well that, according to their marketing material, offer day passes.
