There is no single, permanent “safe number” to follow on Twitter or Digg. Platform enforcement looks at patterns of behavior more than one-shot totals. pointed toward official guidance; the practical takeaway is to make your actions look deliberate and human, not robotic or bursty.

Follow these conservative, practical habits to reduce risk and build real reach.

  • Start very slowly with new accounts and increase follow activity gradually over days and weeks.
  • Space follows out across hours rather than doing large batches in minutes.
  • Mix actions: likes, comments, shares/diggs and profile visits as well as follows so activity appears varied.
  • Avoid automated follow/unfollow scripts and repeat cycles that add then remove the same accounts.
  • Prioritize following accounts you intend to read or engage with; quality beats quantity for long-term growth.
  • Track engagement: if many follows get no response, slow down and focus on interaction before adding more.

If you hit rate limits or a temporary block: stop the behavior immediately, remove or disable third-party apps that might be automating actions, secure and verify the account, wait calmly (often 24–72 hours), and file an appeal or support ticket if the restriction persists. Keep records of what you were doing when the block happened in case support asks.

Digg’s model emphasizes content curation and voting more than bulk following; the same rules apply—avoid bursty automation, engage with content, and let connections grow naturally. Platform policies and rate limits change, so use official help/documentation for up-to-date limits and treat any numeric “rules of thumb” as conservative starting points rather than guarantees.

Read this article From the twitter help center.... I have seen several people who follow and get followed by hundreds of people and they have no problem... I have read somewhere that You can add 1k people a day and the max people you can follow is 2k.... I don't think its the number you should care for it is your activity log which you should keep in mind....
