I have an IBM R31 laptop with 128 mb RAM installed, but when i check the system configuration, it shows only 120 mb. what's the problem?

This also happens with an older Dell Latitude of mine. While I am not 100% sure of the cause, I believe that one of my RAM chips might be faulty, but it has really never bothered me enough to repair it.
Check and see if the OS shows 128MB or 120MB, because it is possible the BIOS reserves it for something (video memory and such).
