First of all, you should post all hijackthis logs in the security forum. Second, you need to update your hijackthis to version 1.98.2. Before scanning with hijackthis again, download and scan with Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy and let them fix what they find, if anything. After that, rescan with hijackthis with all browser windows closed, save, and post in the security forum. There one of the security experts will take a look at your log and advise you from there.

First of all, you should post all hijackthis logs in the security forum.

Yes, as the announcement at the top of the other forums clearly states. Moving to the Security forum now, buckle up....

somebodyhelp, you are heavily infested with crapware- do as deonnanicole suggested ASAP: update to HJT version 1.98.2, download and run Ad Aware SE and SpyBot Search & Destroy, and post a fresh log from HJT 1.98.2.

Before running Ad Aware, SpyBot, and HJT, do the following:

- Reboot into safe mode and delete the entire contents of all Temp, Cookie, History, and Temporary Internet Files folders.
- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.
- Empty your Recycle Bin.
- Reboot normally.

If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed.

ok guys i will get it done. will keep u updated.

To help prevent being reinfected, you should update your Internet Explorer to v.6, SP1 using Windows Update and install Spyware Blaster from here: http://www.zerosrealm.com/index.php?page=downloads

To clean out more temporary files, do a search on your computer for *.tmp

To help prevent being reinfected, you should update your Internet Explorer to v.6, SP1 using Windows Update and install Spyware Blaster...

Or just dump Internet Explorer altogether; other browsers such as Netscape, Opera, and Firefox are immune to almost all of the infections which plague IE.

Ok guys i had done as what was being told. Could u guys recommend me most used browser other than IE? After lookin thru the advices given i tought of changin it. Anyway here is the log from HJT that i had recently done. Please do give some advices, thanks in advance.

Whether you use Netscape, Firefox, or Opera as your browser is really a matter of personal preference; each of those browsers has its own set features and functions, some of which you might like, and some perhaps not. Start by downloading any one of them; if you find you don't like it, try another.

In terms of your HJT log, have you run Ad Aware and SpyBot yet? If not, please do so and post a fresh log.

yup i already run both ad aware and spybot.

*Groan*... I was afraid you were going to say that.

Your system has been compromised about "eight ways to Sunday" as the saying goes, and you're going to need a heck of a lot more than HijackThis to fix it all. Let me gather the relevant resources and get back to you ASAP.

(Unless of course *ahem!* crunchie wants to take a stab at this one... )

1. Download AboutBuster here. Run it and let it perform its fixes.

2. Read the following article for another possible solution to the "about:blank" problem:

- Reboot into safe mode and, for every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders:

1. Local Settings\Temp
2. Cookies
3. History
4. Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed.

- Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". Once done, search for and delete all of the .exe, .htm, and .html files in the HJT entries I listed above.

- Empty your Recycle Bin.
- Reboot normally.

5. This indicates that part of your network stack has been corrupted:

O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'osmim.dll' missing
Follow the instructions in this thread to restore your TCP/IP stack:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/WinXP/Q_20786932.html

6. Run HJT again and post a fresh log.

Did you just paste the whole log in there Dave? :).

Download the PeperFix.exe tool from here:

http://downloads.subratam.org/PeperFix.exe

Click on the PeperFix.exe to launch it.

Click the Find and Fix button.

It will scan the %Systemroot% folder and locate all the peper files. You will be prompted to reboot. Reboot and it will delete the peper files.
Ensure that you are online before starting the fix. Make sure to run the fix twice.

Go here to TrendMicro for an on-line scan & set it to autoclean for you.

Try this scan at Panda as well.

Can you please download this file from here:

Getservice.zip

Extract the file to the c:\ drive. Then navigate to the c:\getservices and double-click on the getservices.bat file. A notepad will open up. Please paste the contents of that notepad into this post.

Reboot & rescan with hijackthis & post that log here. Do not skip any steps or you will be back to square one!

Did you just paste the whole log in there Dave?

Anyway after deleting the MSXMIDI.EXE file, i got an error msg stating that this required file is missing. Any idea on how to get rid of the error msg?? Anyway pls feel free to advise me further.

Crunchie..i m gettin started on yours currently. Will keep u updated and currently i m using the Firefox browser. Feels it is much better.

crunchie..regarding that 'getservice' program, i read thru and saw that it does not work proper with my OS therfefore i did not install it. So what u think, should i juz try and download it?

O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'osmim.dll' missing -> regarding this wat does it mean anyways? But my internet juz workin fine. Anyway thanks again guys for sparing the time.

Anyway after deleting the MSXMIDI.EXE file, i got an error msg stating that this required file is missing. Any idea on how to get rid of the error msg??

Do these three things:

1. Have HJT fix these entries:
F1 - win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SERVICES\MSXMIDI.EXE
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [xpsystem] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SERVICES\MSXMIDI.EXE

2. Open your win.ini file with Notepad, locate the line that reads "run=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SERVICES\MSXMIDI.EXE". If that line exists, delete everything to the right of the = sign, and then save the file.

3. Check the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SERVICES folder once more just to make sure MSXMIDI.EXE was definitely deleted. If it wasn't, kill it now.

O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'osmim.dll' missing -> regarding this wat does it mean anyways?

LSP = Layered Service Provider. Very basically, this is a Microsoft networking software component which is an extention/addition to the core TCP/IP software (TCP/IP stack). The word "layered" refers to the fact that many different individual networking components can be layered/stacked/chained together such that they act as a single "pipeline" for network communication. Unfortunately, malicious programs can insert themselves into this chain to alter that communication; think of it as a parasitic biological organism grafting itself into the ladder structure of DNA.
When the offending program is removed, it leaves a broken link in the chain, which should be repaired; one of these two programs might do the trick:

http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.bu.edu/pcsc/internetaccess/winsock2fix.html

My mistake regarding the getservice file.
Check in add remove programs for Marketscore & uninstall it if found.
Download LSPfix from here
On the opening screen, click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox. Check all instances of "osmim.dll" (and nothing else), and move them to the "Remove" pane. Then click Finish.

Do a search for osmim.dll & delete it manually.

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [29L3H4D4@D4CB#] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PceK.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Dpi] C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\DPI\DPI.EXE

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PceK.exe-file

C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\DPI-folder

Reboot normally.

Dave.. i had done everything as told and thanks for the explanantion.

Crunchie..did everything too and here's the HJT log, pls advise me the necessary.

Good thinking!
Don't forget to install SpywareBlaster too (link in crunchie's signature).
You asked earlier about other recommended browsers; in other threads here that question has been asked (you can do a search and read them yourself), and the majority opinion seems to be Firefox.

yup i already install both the spyware guard and and spyware blaster. Currently using the Firefox browser. Been workin fine so far. Thks.
