Hello,

Internet Explorer 7 windows are opening uncontrollably every time I start FireFox (browser of choice). About every 4 minutes a new window automatically opens. I've seen a couple threads dealing with the same issue but could never find a resolution. Something is triggering the problem every time I open a FireFox browser because the IE7 windows do not open uncontrollably if I'm working within other applications (such as Photoshop or Warcraft).

I've ran both Spybot Search and Destroy and Ewido Micro as suggested in a similar thread but the problem still occurs. I also have ZoneAlarm Security Suite which is also unable to find the problem.

As you can imagine the windows are very annoying when they get over 20+...

Below you will find my HiJack .txt report, please advise. Any help on the issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - zdevine

you need to update HiJackThis and post a new log.

go to filehippo.com and download Spybot S&D and Ccleaner and update and scan with both

i got the same problem

I would not use Ewido I used to use it until someone I know had there anti spy ware and anti-virus and it tried to run a virus when they started it. I am not sure if it was a positve positive reaction with the 2 programs or if Ewido actually does contain a virus.

Ewido is as safe as houses. It is now actually AVG antispyware.

The latest Spybot S&D and Ccleaner have been installed and run. Below you will find my up-to-date HiJackThis report:

I looked at your hijack log and I think you should turn off acrobat as it references to internet explorer a lot in your log. Please mark me as a thread solver if this fixes your problem.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

  • Save it to your Desktop
  • Physically disconnect from the internet.
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields)
  • Click on your START button and choose Run. Then copy/paste the entire content of the following quotebox (Including the "" marks and the Symbols) into the run box.

    "%userprofile%\desktop\ComboFix.exe" /KillAll

  • Click OK and this will start ComboFix.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to a Notepad File and include it in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log.

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

* Re-enable all the programs that were disabled prior to the running of ComboFix.

* Post the following logs/Reports:

  • ComboFix.txt
  • Fresh HijackThis log run after all the other tools have performed their cleanup.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

EDIT PP:
Removed original post - Crunchie beat me to it.

PP :)

Combofix has been ran accordingly. Thanks for your help! Below you will find Combofix and HiJackthis logs:

Viewpoint Manager is considered to be foistware, rather than malware, since it is installed without users approval, but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". Please read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest that you remove the program. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
Viewpoint
Viewpoint Manager
Viewpoint Media Player

===========

1. Please open Notepad Click Start , then Run
Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.
2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:
RENV::
----a-w 3,507,272 2008-01-30 14:40:47 C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Downloads\Fraps 2.9.3 build 6914 .exeNote: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Physically disconnect from the internet.

5. Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
