I reported a previous problem on the "Internet Explorer Forum" about my browser wouldn't respond to any specified web page for a while, although it does try to access the specified web page and I can see the name of the desired page on the title bar yet nothing happens and then the progress meter on at the bottom of the page jams. After a while my IE functions properly without any changes whatsoever from me.

Someone suggested that I scan my system using Hijackthis and I did.
Here are my results. Kindly, feed me back

Brief expert summary for (and thanks to for the practical steps): the intermittent Internet Explorer hang described is commonly caused by removable startup helpers, proxy/hosts-file redirection, or browser add‑ons. Moving HijackThis into a permanent folder and running it with all browser windows closed — as advised — is the right start. The safest, most effective next actions are below.

  1. Create a rollback point first. Make a System Restore snapshot or export the registry so any change can be undone.
  2. Close all browsers and other Internet apps. Run HijackThis from the permanent folder. Use “Fix Checked” only for the specific startup helper that was already identified by the others (do not blanket‑delete unknown items). Reboot and retest.
  3. Verify browser network settings (Tools → Internet Options → Connections → LAN Settings). Remove any unnecessary proxy entries (corporate proxies are OK only if required by the network).
  4. Inspect the hosts file (windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) for unexpected domain-to-IP mappings; remove entries that shouldn’t be there and save a clean copy.
  5. Remove unneeded toolbars/BHOs via Add/Remove Programs and the browser’s add‑on manager. Update and run a full scan with antivirus and a current anti‑spyware tool.
  6. If hangs persist, test with a different Windows user profile or another browser to see if the problem is profile-specific.

Cautions: only fix items you understand; keep a log of every change and, if anything breaks, use the restore point or re‑enable the startup item. A fresh HijackThis scan taken after the above steps (with browsers closed) will document remaining items for further review.

There are a few things to do there, but I need to see hijackthis in a permanent folder.

Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it.

If you're quick enough I'll have a go before I go to bed :).

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked':

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WINDVDPatch] CTHELPER.EXE

Disable it in Msconfig. Cannot see anything else there now :).
