I am having a problem going to secure sites (https:) and getting access to information. Regular web sites seem to be working OK. I have run Adaware and Spybot to get rid of all the garbage files. I have also run HiJackThis and would appreciate it if someone could take a look at the HiJackThis log file and let me know what I need to get rid of.. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I made all the changes in your message and deleted the file in safemode. I then restarted XP again. I brought up AOL and tried to access the PayPal and Fidelity sites. I have always been able to get to the main page for each of these sites but after I put in my ID and password for the access for these sites just seems to chug along and I end up with the "Cannot Find Server or DNS Error". I have two other sites that are secure and require my ID and password and those sites work fine. I have attached a HiJacks log after all your suggested changes were made. Any other ideas on what the problem might be or software I can try to find the problem ?? Thanks a lot for your help.

OK- judging from your initial HJT log, I didn't think that spyware/etc. would be the root of the problem, but it's good to get possibility out of the way. If none of our other members repond to you before tomorrow, I'll do so then.

You can try changing the security settings in IE to the default setting. Internet options\security.

I tried that but still have the same problem. Thanks for the suggestion and help.

Check your XP firewall settings. Try manually disabling the XP firewall to see if that fixes the problems. You might also try downloading Win XP SP2 to see if that helps.

Disabled firewall but cannot get access to the PayPal and Fidelity secure sites. Problem still exists. Thanks for the suggestion.

Still having the same problem - have tried a million things - no luck - Any other suggestion from anyone ????????????????

Download a copy of firefox from www.mozilla.org and see if you can access them using that.

I finally solved the problem. I got an email from AOL that they have a new AOL version called AOL 9.0 SE. I downloaded this version and everything work fine now. I am able to access the secure sites I could not get to. It must have been an AOL problem all along. Thanks to everyone for their help.

I would recommend that anyone having problems with "Cannot Find Server or DNS Error" message and running AOL upgrade to this AOL 9.0 Security Version. It also includes free McAfee Viruscan but I opted to use Norton Antivirus.

This is actually a DNS issue. The AOL upgrade happens to fix it but if you don't have AOL (or don't want to upgrade), there is another way to fix it. It's called PageFix and it's free to try software from fixIEonline.com. Give it a shot, it worked for me. PageFix

I have aol security edition, and it did not fix the problem that I am having (exact same one) and after downloading the above mentioned program winzip could not open it.
