Hello BTerrence, welcome to daniweb. You have a HUGE number of programs running in the background which could really pose a problem. Give us some info on the computer itself...Hard drive size, how much space is remaining, how much RAM is installed

You need to begin your OWN thread and not hijack another's.

Ok, since you say you will delete what needs to be deleted let's begin there.
Run HiJackThis again. What I need to see is an Uninstall list. To do this do the following;
1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
You will now be presented with a list of programs installed on the computer.
At the bottom right you should see a button Save List. Click this specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here. You can also either print it out or save it someplace on the computer where you can find it for later use.
May be that no programs need to be removed but it is good to have the list.
You should go through that too and see if there are programs you have installed that you know absolutely are no longer used, like software for and old printer or camera you no longer have.
Hard drive is 140gb with 80 gb used, not too bad, slightly more than half but there are probably things you can get rid of and free up some space.
Now you say;

my son downloads all sorts of rubish,
nothing on the computer is of great importance

I see he has an iPod so probably a lot of what he has downloaded is music. For now, let's leave that alone. Having grandkids with iPods I know they consider that important, whether we do or not, and an iPod can break, get lost or stolen and if that would happen he would probably want much of that again. Frankly, am not certain of the "logistics" of an iPod, and I am sure somebody can tell us, but I know my daughter goes through occasionally and asks her kids what can go and what can stay of the music files downloaded so let's put those asside for now.
Go through the computer, where ever he saves "stuff", look for pictures, if you or he wants to save those then burn those to a disk and then get them off the computer. Same goes for videos. I always tell folks not to keep those things on the computer but burn them to disks for backup. That way you don't run the risk of losing them if the computer should fail. It is a lot easier later to get them back and to take a look at them and say, "heck I don't want these anymore" and throw the disk away.
If he uses this for school work and has valuable things like papers, reports, etc., burn those to a disk also.
A word of caution, you may think it is rubbish but he may really and truly not think so, that hard drive is not over loaded so take some care in just dumping things. Most of the slowness and freezing probably comes from the number of programs running all the time and we can eliminate some of those after the clean up is done so take care in removing things. Just want to avoid some family turmoil here.:)

Next do some general cleanup of temp files and stuff like that by using either ATF-Cleaner or CCleaner. Both are good clean up programs. CCleaner is a little more "in depth" but only use the Default Scan portion of that if you choose it. Make sure your browsers are closed when you run it.
When you open it what you would see is the Windows Tab selected and various items are all ready selected with green arrows. Don't change anything. Just click the Analyze button. It will quickly scan the computer for items which can be removed. Once it stops it will show all that can go and how much space you will gain. Click the Run Cleaner button and it will free up that space.

Do those steps and give me the Uninstall list and we can go from there.

See...told you that you better ask your son:)
We will leave the games and music alone.
What I DO see that can be removed are the following;

Axife Mouse Recorder DEMO 5.01...this one is a demo program so that definitely can go because in order to keep it you have to pay for it.

FBrowsingAdvisor...this one corresponds to a program that is either malware, installs malware, or is bundled with malware.

Outerinfo...this one also can/is associated with malware and absolutely should go.

Go to Add/Remove and see if you can Uninstall those three. If they are not listed then let me know.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

Post back with that log.

There are others in the Uninstall list that will need to go as they are outdated BUT let's get rid of the others before doing these as you will need to download the updated version first.

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

im not to sure if you want me to download the updates, so to be on teh safe side i dicided to do so if you ask me to.

0

Tell you what, go ahead and download the Java from HERE
Be sure to choose the Offline install and save it to the desktop. Once you have done that then go on and Uninstall all those old versions via Add/Remove.
You may be required to reboot.
Once they are gone then double click that Java install on the desktop and follow the prompts.
Again, you may have to reboot.
Once the install is complete then go back up to the link and on the Right Side of the page you will see Verify Now. Click there to verify the installation went correctly.
Then run another Full System Scan with HJT, save the log and post it here.

............. uninstall the programs, i have been doing it though control panel add remove program feature......

Absolutely the correct way to do it. If a program isn't listed there then you look for it's listing in Start, All Programs next, often times the Uninstall will be listed there. If not there then in the individual program file itself.
I see nothing bad in the HJT log. Since you were having trouble with freezes of the computer, and the amount of RAM is 512, which is probably part of your problem. If you increase the RAM to at least 1GB this could help. RAM is not expensive and an easy way to speed the computer. But since you say this is a fairly recent problem I would recommend disabling some of those unnecessary start up items, which then means the program runs all the time in the background and uses a lot of resources. You do have a lot of these programs starting up which can very easily be run manually when needed. If you like I can give you a list of what can be turned off and also links to a couple of free, easy to use programs which make it easy to control the start ups.
One question, do you or any member of your family use Microsoft's Input Message Editor (IME) for translating Japanese/Chinese text in IE, Outlook and Word? And why are you only using a 640x480 resolution?

sorry, let me put wat i said earlyer into better words,
my son runs all of his games and videos etc in 640x480 because if it is any higher than that it will most definetly crash and freeze up in the first few miniutes.
everything besides games and videos, is run in the sreans native,
(1280x1024) if i remember corectly.
my appoligies for the bad wording of my previous post, i shoudl have extended on it

Just wanted to check for sure if you needed the translator. Since he uses it for school we will leave it alone.
To disable autostarts there are two programs which are excellent. One is Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel
Very simple and easy to use. Another one I like is CodeStuff Starter Also very easy to use but give you more detail concerning the programs and processes which may be connected. It also shows you running processes, much like the Task Manager, but CodeStuff also tells you the processes associated with the items running.
With both programs all you have to do is REMOVE the check marks next to the items running and reboot the computer. Next time it boots those items you have taken the checkmarks from will not automatically start up. But you can run any or all of them manually when needed.
Here is your list and an explanation of each;
Reminder...HP-specific program that reminds users to create System Recovery CDs, if you do create these this will automatically stop running. This is something you should do really. There should be instructions which came with the computer. You would need these if something happens and you have to format the computer.
HP Software Update
TkBellExe...Real Player update reminder
ISUSPM Startup...InstallShield Update Service Scheduler. Automatically searches for and performs any updates to the software so you’re always working with the most current version
ISUSScheduler...InstallShield Update Service Scheduler. Automatically searches for and performs any updates to the software so you’re always working with the most current version.
Sony Ericsson PC Suite...The Sony Ericsson PC Suite for the Sony Ericsson P910 phone. This program can be used to synchronize your data between your PC and phone. You can start this program as necessary.
QuickTime Task...System Tray access to Apple's "Quick Time" viewer from version 5 onwards
EverioService...Related to JVC Everio camcorders. Not sure about this one. You can try turning it off and see if there is a problem with it. If there is just go back in and re-enable it with the program you used to turn it off.
SunJavaUpdateSched...sun java update reminder. Do it manually. As you can see, it doesn't do a very good job.
swg...Added by the Google ToolBar for Internet Explorer. This program will notify you when you attempt to change the Internet Explorer search engine to someyhing other than google.
updateMgr...Installed with Adobe products to check for updates and prompt you to install them
Adobe Reader Speed Launch...supposedly speeds up the opening of the Adobe Reader, increase is barely noticeable if at all.

Think about installing more RAM for sure if possible, like I said it is fairly inexpensive and very easy to install, if this is a tower.

my son runs all of his games and videos etc in 640x480 because if it is any higher than that it will most definetly crash and freeze up in the first few miniutes.

You might try and see if your video or display driver needs updating. Right Click My Computer. Choose Properties. When System Properties opens then choose Hardware, Device Manager. Once there click on Display Adapters. Look and see the manufacture and model of your adapter. Double Click on it to see the driver versionThen go to the adapter manufacturers website to see if they have updated drivers for your adapter. This may make a difference.

Brad Terrence

You are correct, there are different types of RAM and it is very specific to each computer. Not sure where you are located Brad. If you are in the US you can go to Crucial.com. The website scans your computer and tells you how much you have, the maximum you can add and exactly what kind to purchase. I have purchased through them at least 5 times and they generally are cheaper than anywhere else. But if you wish to purchase where you are then, yes, I would advise you take the computer with you so that you can get the correct type. Takes about 2 minutes to install new RAM so many places will do it for you, OR if you order it you can do it yourself.
Now of course this is with a desktop computer, not certain how hard it is to install on a laptop but I think it can be done also without too much difficulty.
