The only thing I see that's weird is that this keeps coming back:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/cus...//www.yahoo.com

Have HJT fix it (again) and, if you haven't done so already, get Spywareblaster and/or SpywareGaurd (links in DMR's sig), update them, and have them enable all protection.

You know, even though I often see people recommending that the "red.clientapps" entries should be fixed by HJT, I've never found any information which indicates that those URLs are really "nasties" at all. Additionally, if you run an nslookup on "red.clientapps.yahoo.com", it does report that URL to be associated with valid IP addresses belonging to Yahoo. :?:

I have Yahoo Messenger and Toolbar and use Yahoo for mail and my default web page, so maybe that's where it comes from.

Yeah- from what I've seen, I think that's really what's going on.

I recommend a conversion of IE to firefox, and shutting off active X on your computer as previously mentioned. Then run spyware checks and ccleaner (crapcleaner), and stiner etc. Then run a hijack log. There should be no nasties. If so back up all files you need, and reformat.

Does it make any difference when it just shows the number, not the description or address?

The general concensus seems to be that if the CLSID (the 32-character identifier string) doesn't show up with an associated "human-readable" description, there's something wrong with it.

I don't think an incomplete/partial entry in a HJT log necessarily indicates a "nasty"; a partial entry could probably also be the result of some sort of registry corruption, an incompletely/incorrectly uninstalled component, etc.
That's just my understanding though; I could be wrong.

Ok, guys, I'm baaack...LOL...

Things are running smoothly and they only thing found with all of my programs is IE Browser Plugins. I delete them everytime.

Question:

In one of the threads, DMR, you said:

For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders:
1. Local Settings\Temp
2. Cookies
3. History
4. Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

1) Should I do this a lot? I already do:

Start/Control Panel/Network and Internet Connections/Internet Options/Delete Files/Delete All Ofline Content/Delete Cookies/Clear History

everytime before I shut my comp down for the night. Is that enough or should I do what you said above more often?

I do the same as you each time I log off IE, then I do as DMR suggests about once a week. I put shortcuts on my destop (all in one folder) to make it easier. In addition to that, I clean out C\Temp, use Disk Cleanup, and do a search for *.tmp and delete all those as well.

DPFs (Downloaded Program Files) can get reinstalled on your computer in the normal (or not so normal) course of surfing the web. The files are ActiveX controls used by web site, so if you have HijackThis delete a given "016" entry and later visit a site which uses that DPF, it will be redownloaded to your computer again.

Not all 016 entries in a HJT log are malicious by a long shot, but a Google search for the particular Class ID (CLSID) of the one we're dealing with here indicates that it is related to a DPF called "RunExeActiveX.RunExe".

I may just be paranoid from too many months of HJT log analysis, but I really don't feel god about something whose name says: "Hey, look at me, I can run potentially malicious code on your computer!"

:lol: Ok, I had HJT take care of "red.clienttaps". I did a search on it and never dod find anything malicious about it. I have Yahoo Messenger and Toolbar and use Yahoo for mail and my default web page, so maybe that's where it comes from.

I have Spyware Blaster, AVG, Spyware Doctor, CWS Shredder, SPYbot S&D, Adaware SE and SysClean. I have them all updated and those that run while I'm on are running.
