My son used the computer and the next day I can't do anything. Took me 2 days to get the hijackthis on the computer. I am posting from my work computer. I went into add remove programs and saw something called "contextual tool offersfortoday" it had no indication of a file size and won't uninstall.

All I need is help on how to fix it. How to prevent it. I have spybot and avg and ad aware on there ran them all nothing worked. I also need to know if I should ground my son for life.

thanks for any help you can give

Can you pls do the following:

1. - Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button) to your desktop.

* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
* At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
* Post the log back here.

Make sure that you restart the computer.

The log can also be found here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

2. – Pls Run HJT again and post the log.

In your reply, post the logs (in this order):
1. - Malware Bytes Log
2. - Hijackthis Log

Thanks,

Cohen

This process that is running;
C:\DOCUME~1\NATHAN~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\csrssc.exe
is your nasty file.
It is a a variant of the Win32/TrojanDownloader.Small.CYF malware.
Now if you can go into the Task Manager, look for that running and End the Process. I am not certain that it will end but try it.
While you are in there End this one too;
TeaTimer.exe
The file above is the Spybot TeaTimer, legitmate program but it can interfere with any fixes done
There are some questionable entires in HiJackThis.
See if you can remove them Before rebooting and AFTER stopping both those running processes:
Place check marks next to these entries and click the Fix Checked button.

Reboot to SAFE MODE

Your nasty file is located here:

C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\NATHAN~1LOCAL SETTINGS\Temp

Don't know what Nathan's full user name is but you do and should be able to find it. When you get there, empty that TEMP file, that is where that trojan file is running from.

Going into safe mode it would probably be best because generally this trojan will start up as soon as the computer is booted up, not certain if it can be removed in safe mode either without special tools but this is the way to try it. If you can get in there in safe mode then delete that csrssc.exe all the way out if possible.

Do this and see if this helps any. You still will need to do some more clean up, beginning with the MBA-M that Cohen noted.

Is LocalNet your ISP? In New York?
Judy

Thanks so much works fine. Son is no longer aloud near anything with a keyboard. only last problem is I can't get the MBA-M to work it just wont open.

Please try the following routine given in the MBA-M forum to see if you can get Malwarebytes to run.

* Click on Start, click Run, and then type devmgmt.msc and click OK
* On the View menu click on Show hidden devices
* Browse to Non-Plug and Play Drivers and you might see something like TDSSserv.sys
* Highlight that driver and right click on it and select DISABLE
* Now RESTART your computer.
* Download a copy of Malwarebytes but DO NOT run it yet.
* Rename the downloaded installer file to any generic name such as your own name but keep the .EXE extension on the file and run it.
* Once the program is installed go to the UPDATE tab and try to update the program if you can.
* Then go to the SCANNER tab and run a Full System scanand allow MBAM to Remove anything found.
Reboot the system.
Run a new HJT log and post back with both logs.
