I was experiencing a problem where every time I start up my computer, explorer.exe would shutdown, then startup up and repeat. I ran malwarebytes and it deleted about 20 infected files/folders etc.

I just ran HJT and would like someone to look it over for me to let me know if everything checks out alright.

Hi and welcome to the Daniweb forums :).

==========

Still showing an infection there. Please post the MBA-M log.

I just did a scan and it doesn't seem to read any infections.

I never asked for a new log. I wanted to see what the original scan removed.

Unfortunately I never saved the first log. I think I know what the infection is related to though. On startup, "firefox.exe" starts up but no actual browser window. It's never done this before. When opening task manager, there is an application of firefox and the process. But the browser isn't actually running.

If you can't help me because I didn't save the previous log I get it. All I know is there were a ton of Trojans and a backdoor trojan. All were either deleted on reboot or immediately.

Open MBA-M. Click the Logs tab. That first log should be in there.

We also have to check that no legitimate files were deleted accidentally

Thank you.

Looks ok :). I would suggest though, that you update MBA-M to the latest database version and do another scan to be sure there is nothing else found.

It just started happening again...

I couldn't edit my last post but here is my new mbam log and HJT

No action taken in MBA-M? You need to remove what is found.

I did remove them. I copy & pasted the log before I did. Everything was removed in the same fashion as they were last time. This time however, whenever my computer starts up, there are two unresponsive Firefox applications as opposed to the one application before. With them is two processes to match. When I open the browser it opens a third responsive Firefox application and a third firefox.exe process. When I terminate the other two it doesn't affect the browser and removes the unresponsive applications associated with it. The HJT log was pre-removal of the trojans. Here is one post removal.

I didn't know that you needed the removal log. Sorry.

Because of what has been removed, I would suggest running another tool.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE

  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Physically disconnect from the internet.
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Run Combofix ONCE only!!

Okay.

That's looking ok to my eye. How is the pc?

It's running great now. No more unresponsive Firefox applications or processes on startup and everything else is running normally. Thank you for your help!

No worries :).

Let's get rid of Combofix now that we are finished with it. Click START then RUN
Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the /, it needs to be there.
