Hotoffers Please Help Me Remove

Alright so i dont know how but i seem to have contracted something called the Hotoffer hijack which has taken over my homepage and will not let me access the site that was my homepage. Also every now and then a meesage pops up that is Titled :Error #317, but it also says that my computer has been corrupted with spyware and says click here to delete or something like that. I have tryed everything like webroots spy sweeper, spybot search and destroy, ad aware, and Antivir xp. FOr some reason only spy sweeper detects it but i will not remove it. Please help me get rid of this virus.

Hi. You are running hijackthis from a temporary folder, can you please create a new folder anywhere other than in a temporary folder, then move hijackthis.exe into it and run it from there.

Download the Pocket KillBox
Unzip the file to your desktop.

Go offline until you have completed all the below.

Run Pocket Killbox and paste the full file path of each of the below files in the box and click on Standard File Kill and End Explorer Shell While Killing File. Click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle after you enter each file (see the files below).

C:\WINDOWS\System32\systr.dll
C:\documents and settings\dustin sohn\local settings\temp\o336dm6Tx.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\qfkf\qfkfm.exe [(delete the qfkf folder once done)]

Reboot afterwards if the files are successfully deleted.

If all files are not deleted, do not reboot yet. Run Pocket Killbox again and paste the full file path in the box and click on Delete on Reboot. Next click on the button with the red circle and an X in the middle. You will get a message saying "File with be deleted on next reboot, Process and Reboot now?" Click "Yes" to reboot only after the last file you enter.

Post another log after the reboot when hijackthis is in a permanent folder and we will clean up the rest.

C:\Documents and Settings\Du$tin\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis[1].zip\HijackThis.exe

The log entry above indicates that you are still running HJT from within a Temp/Temporary folder. Please do the following:

Create a folder outside of any Temp/Temporary folders for HJT and move it there now. A folder such such as C:\HijackThis or C:\Spyware Tools\HijackThis will do.

One of the normal steps in eliminating malicious programs is to entirely delete the contents of all Temp folders. Given that, if HijackThis (and other data that you care about) is living in those Temp folders, it will be erased along with everything else!
Temp/Temporary folders are just that- Temporary. They are not meant for permanent storage, as their contents are often delete in the course of troubleshooting, by running disk clean-up utilities, etc.

Sorry, but your latest log still shows HJT running from within a temp folder:

"C:\Documents and Settings\Du$tin\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\WLMRK9EV\hijackthis[1]\HijackThis.exe"

I'm not sure what you're doing wrong, but you've got to get HJT into its own separate folder before we continue, because we're going to delete the entire contents of all of your Temp/Temporary/Temporary Internet Files folders in the course of this troubleshoot.

The file that you double click on to start hijackthis is the file that you need to move to the permanent folder. Then delete the one in the temp folder.
If you cannot move it then download the self extracting version from here;

www.malwareremoval.com/downloads.html

Make sure to select the self extracting version. It will install itself into your Program Files folder.

Well, we're going to find which is the real HJT very shortly. :mrgreen:

1. C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

The log entry above indicates that you had at least 1 instance of Internet Explorer running when you ran HijackThis.
Before fixing problems with HijackThis, you must make sure to close/quit ALL instances of your web browser! HijackThis cannot fully perform its fixes while browsers are running.

2. Once you've closed all browsers, have HJT fix:

3. Reboot into safe mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up)

- Open Windows Explorer, and in the Folder Options->View settings under the Tools menu, select "show hidden files and folders", and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extentions for known file types".

- Delete the following folders entirely:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
C:\Program Files\WildTangent
C:\Program Files\Common Files\qfkf
C:\Program Files\PartyPoker

- For every user account listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (but not the folders themselves):

- Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

Note- If you get any messages concerning the deletion of system files such as desktop.ini or index.dat, just choose to delete those files; they'll be automatically regenerated by Windows if needed. Windows will allow you to delete the versions of those files which exist in sub-folders within the main Temp/Temorary folders, but might not let you delete the versions of those files that exist in the main Temp folders themselves; this is normal and OK.

- Empty your Recycle Bin.

4. Reboot normally, run HJT again, and post a fresh log.

I tried deleting

C:\documents and settings\dustinsohn\local settings\temp\o336dm6Tx.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\qfkf\qfkfm.exe [(delete the qfkf folder once done)]
with killbox but it said the files do not exist.

I still need help

It stills says on the logfile that there is a hijackthis downloaded in the temporary file however the one with the logfile below was the self extracted version. It sounds like you opened Internet Explorer (the web browser) instead of Windows Explorer (the program that let's you browse My Computer, My Network Places, etc.).

If you have a keyboard which has the Windows key (the key will have the "flag-like" Windows logo on it), hold that key and simultaneously hit the "E" key to bing up Explorer. Alternatively- under your Start menu button, navigate to Programs->Accessories and cick on "Windows Explorer".

Within Windows Explorer you should find the menu options I mentioned.

Good job- I don't see any signs of active nasties in your new log. :)

You may just be able to delete the Viewpoint software through the Add/Remove Programs control panel, but I wouldn't sweat it if you can't. Viewpoint deals with multimedia content, and it gets on your system from sites that display such content. The program isn't a true infection, but it does "phone home" to Viewpoint's servers without notifying you, so it's considered to be a privacy infringement. That's the reason I suggested you get rid of it.

The following entry seems to be stuck in your log, although the actual malicious file is being reported as missing, so the entry is probably juat a loose end. See if you can make it go away by doing the following:

In HijackThis, click on Config, then Misc Tools, and then press the Delete an NT service.. button. When it opens, enter "ACCRA" (omit the quotes) and then press OK.

Sorry, I forgot that the service has to be disabled before it can be deleted.
Do the following (logged in as a user with Adminstrator rights):

- Open the Sevices utility in your Administrative Tools control panel.

- Locate the ACCRA service and double-click on it to open its Properties window.

- Click the "Stop" button and wait for Windows to terminate the service. If the service enabled but not currently running, the Stop button will be greyed out; just go the next step.

- In the "Startup Type:" drop-down menu, choose Disabled.

- Click OK to close the Properties window, and then close the Services utility.

Yes, you can go back on the Net now.
Here are some general recommendations that you should follow ASAP to minimize your chances of getting reinfected once you do go back on line (I see that you've done some of them already):

1. Use Windows Automatic Update function to keep your system as up-to-date as possible with the most current Microsoft security and bug fixes.

2. Stop using Internet Explorer as your web browser. Because IE is so closely tied into the Windows operating system itself and contains so many security flaws, switching to another browser such as Netscape, Firefox, or Opera will greatly reduce the avenues through which spyware/adware/hijackers/etc. can infect your computer.

3. Install preventative utilities such as SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard (links are in my sig below), especially if you absolutely have to continue using Internet Exploder. These utilities protect areas of your system known to be vulnerable to malicious attacks.

4. Tighten up some of Internet Explorer's existing, default settings to make it more secure. Some info on that can be found here: http://tomcoyote.org/ieoe.php

5. Obviously-install a good anti-virus program and enable its "auto-protect" and email-scanning features.

6. Install a stand-alone firewall program such as Zone Alarm or Kerio Personal Firewall, or purchase the "Internet Security" packages offered by Symantec and McAfee.

7. None of your utilities are of much good if you don't check for updates frequently; updates for anti-spyware/anti-virus programs can be released as often as ever two or three days.

2. Double click the fixaccra.reg file and answer "yes" at the prompt to merge.

3. Reboot, run HTJ again, and see if the ACCRA service has been removed.
