My friend presented with this PC problem (really it's not me). His machine (Win XP Pro) is popping up with error messages prompting him to shut down about every 3-4 hours, saying something about these files:

C:\DOCUME`1\MARKAN`1\LOCALS`1\Temp\WERcce2.dir00\services.exe.mdmp

C:\DOCUME`1\MARKAN`1\LOCALS`1\Temp\WERcce2.dir00\appcompat.txt

He's tried manually emptying the Temp folders, updating virus definitions and running a virus scan (Norton), but the scan found nothing and these folders just regenerate themselves and the errors keep coming.

A search at Symantec found me nothing useful either.

PC was freshly wiped just 24 hours prior to the error messages. Apparently after he brought it home he did not run a virus update and had it connected to the internet for 6 hours so that's the window.

Please advise. Thanks.

Follow the recommendations and instructions in the links below, and the post a HijackThis log from the infected computer and we'll try to figure out what the problem is.
