please i came across the term telnet and i will like to know what it is and what it is and it function

Telnet is a protocol that allows you to connect to a remote system over a TCP/IP network. There are two components to telnet, client and server. You use client telnet software to make a connection to a server running the telnet service (application). Once your client establishes a connection to the telnet server, your client becomes a virtual terminal. This allows you to communicate with the remote host from your computer.
