OK here is the deal. I have followed the instructions off of bleeping computer to remove the surf sidekick malware. This did not help my computer run any better, however the surf sidekick is no longer able to be found. When I googled a scanner for the surf sidekick the scanner says I have it still but have to pay 30 dollars to remove. Can anyone help me out with this problem? I have downloaded all of the parts from bleeping computer, which I have read here also as a suggestion. My internet is constantly cutting in and out because of this. I need help to solve this one. Scanning with ewido helps the internet run better but I have to do this every day.

Here is HijackThis(after I ran ewido, and trend micro anti spyware):

Hi,
Download WinPFind.ZIP and completely extract it to a folder.

We shall do an online scan at F-Secure. Please visit: F-Secure Online Scanner Next Generation Beta
1. Click on the link "F-Secure Online Scanner Next Generation Beta".
2. You may receive an alert on the address bar at this point to install the ActiveX control.
3. Click on that alert and then Click Insall ActiveX component.
4. Read the license agreement and click "Accept".
5. Click "Full System Scan" to download the scanning components and begin scan and cleaning.
6. When done click "Show report" and copy/paste its contents into your next reply.

(F-Secure scan works only in Internet Explorer browser)

After the F-Secure scan run WinPFind.exe and click "Start Scan". When the scan completes, click "Copy to Clipboard" button to copy the log it gives, and please post it here along with F-Secure scan log.

here is the F secure log:

WinPFind v1.4.1 - Log file written to "WinPFind.Txt" in the WinPFind folder.
Scan completed on 6/7/2006 10:40:48 PM

Hi,
You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.

  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
  • Then click on Start Update.
  • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display ("Update successful")
  • Exit Ewido, do not run the scan yet!

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Click My Computer, then C:\
In the menu bar, File->New->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "BFU"

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.

  • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
  • Click "Next"
  • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
  • Click "Browse"
  • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
  • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
  • Click "Make New Folder"
  • Type in BFU
  • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".

3. RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcra PLUS Remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Do not run the Uninstaller and the Remover yet.

Please reboot into Safemode:
Turn on the computer.
Immediately begin tapping the F8 key.
Use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode and press the Enter key.

*Click on Ewido>Scanner
Then select "Settings"
Under the bottom section "What to Scan?" make sure "Scan every file" is checked.
Select "OK" and you will return to scanning options.
*Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.

This scan can take quite a while to run, so please be patient .
While the scan is in progress, you will be prompted to clean the first infected file it finds. Choose Clean. Then put a check next to 'Perform action on all infections' . Doing this, enables the scan to proceed automatically until its completion. Click OK

When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.
** Make sure you know where to find this file again. The best place to save it would probably be your Desktop.
Now close Ewido Anti Malware.

Open My Computer and navigate to the c:\BFU folder. Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe

Behind the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon and select alcanshorty.bfu

Press execute and let it do its job.

Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IpWins] C:\Program Files\ipwins\ipwins.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [DNS] C:\Program Files\Common Files\mc-58-12-0000106.exe

Close all open windows except HijackThis, and click Fix Checked.

Make Windows to show all files:-
Go to Start > My Computer. Go to Tools menu, click Folder Options. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then, click to select the option Show hidden files and folders. Click Apply and then click OK to exit.

Delete these files:-
C:\Documents and Settings\Tony\Application Data\Sskuknwrd.dll
C:\Program Files\Common Files\mc-58-12-0000106.exe
C:\Program Files\Windows\WinUpdate.exe (Can you check and post back what other files are there in C:\Program Files\Windows folder?)

Delete these folders:-
C:\Program Files\DNS
C:\Program Files\ipwins

Reboot into normal windows and post the contents of Ewido text report that you saved and a new HiJackThis log.

To start off, I did not find some of the files and folders listed to delete from above.:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\mc-58-12-0000106.exe
C:\Program Files\Windows\WinUpdate.exe (Can you check and post back what other files are there in C:\Program Files\Windows folder?)

Delete these folders:-
C:\Program Files\DNS
C:\Program Files\ipwins

There was a Folder: misc001(mendoza program inside?) so I deleted this hopefully nothing big.
There was also: WinUpdate.fld (in window folder) Did not delete.
I found the IpWins in the add/remove program and removed it.

There was also a snowball wars file in my games and another folder the I tracked down and deleted, know anything about snowball wars?

Also there is a weather program that I did not install that I cannot get rid of, and I accidently deleted the shortcut (hope still in recycle) I see the weather listed in the hijackthis log but cannot fing manually yet.

Also when the computer restarts I am recieving an error has occured pop up: .Error#: 0x80004003

Here is Hijack this log:

Hi,

Make Windows to show all files:-
Go to Start > My Computer. Go to Tools menu, click Folder Options. Uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then, click to select the option Show hidden files and folders. Click Apply and then click OK to exit.

And, delete this file:-
C:\WINDOWS\system32\O.0

HijackThis log looks clean. Is the PC running fine?

so I am still getting an adware.agent popping up on ewido as I restart computer. The windows files are coming back after I delete them and restart. What is the WinPFind folder about.
I did an updated scan and it told me that Accoona was infecting my computer any suggestions on how to remove this, I fix it on hijack this and then did a search and deleted a bunch of winzip or rar files that were Accoona. I also deleted a yahoo folder that I am not sure how it got there. this is some tuff spyware to get rid of!

Hi,
Let's remove the files manually. Please post a new WinPFind log.

Ok so I am not the one who followed the instructions on bleeping computer so I did not know that WinPFind was even a scan tool. I appreciated all of the help I have recieved, Thank you over and over. I have tried removing many of the files manually, and have spent countless hours already going threw every file, but so many of them are bad.

According to ad-aware se i still had surf side kick and a trojan along with some other corrupted files, but After I deleted and scanned again immediately after deleted I think it still found 4 bad files.

When I restart my computer, Ewido eventually pops up and says that an adware.agent has been found. I click on clean but this seems to have no effect as it happens everytime. The WinUpdate.fld file continually comes back no matter how many times deleted. I was also wondering about is there supposed to be the following folders: Config MSI, or Recycler? There are some things in the folders as well. Also the scan tools seem to find most of the junk from the System Volume Information folder, what objects should be found here that aren't bad? Accoona has also appeared in some of the updated scans, do you know anything about this.

Anyway here is the WinPFind search:

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.
If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

WinPFind v1.4.1 - Log file written to "WinPFind.Txt" in the WinPFind folder.
Scan completed on 6/15/2006 6:14:48 PM

Hi,
Please download F-Secure Blacklight (blbeta.exe) and save to your C:\ drive.
1. Open a command window by going to Start > Run and typing: cmd
2. Copy/paste or type the following in the command window:

C:\blbeta.exe /expert

3. Hit "Enter" to start the program and then close the cmd box.
4. Accept the user agreement and click "Next".
5 Click "Scan".
6. After the scan is complete, click "Next", then "Exit". BlackLight will create a log in C:\ drive named "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" (the xxxxxxx will be the date and time of the scan).
7. The log will have a list of all items found. Do not choose to rename any yet! I want to see the log first because legitimate items can also be present...like "wbemtest.exe".
8. Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Note: If you download Blacklight to your desktop, just double-click to run from there and it will create the "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" on your desktop.

===========================================

Next, download Silent Runners.zip. Extract it to your desktop. Double click on silentrunners.vbs. Let the tool to complete it's work. Silent Runners will create a log in the same folder where it's located and its named like Startup Programs *****.txt, where ***** part indicates the computer name and date of the scan. Post the contents of this Startup Programs*****.txt file along with the BlackLight log.

Note: If you have a script blocking Anti-Virus you will have to allow the script to run. Don't worry its safe!

Sorry for the long time before reply. I believe that I have removed the surf sidekick but i still have one or more trojan downloaders. The one I cant seem to get rid of is a trojan downloader.NSIS.Agent.u

Here is the silent runners scan log:

"Silent Runners.vbs", revision 46, http://www.silentrunners.org/
Operating System: Windows XP SP2
Output limited to non-default values, except where indicated by "{++}"

I have run a lot of registry cleaners and virus scans but there is something still there. When I restart my computer a window installer is trying to install an Unload, or sometimes it comes up as TrayApp, or Fax. DO you know where this might be coming from?

Hi,
Do you have HP Director/Digital Imaging Monitor/PhotoSmart software installed in the PC? TrayApp and Fax are related to any of these HP hardware/software. If you have the CD, then please insert the CD and restart the system. The installer will automatically reinstall the corrupt software. Actually, these HP software seems to have some incompatibility issues with some Registry cleaners (like System Mechanic). Probably these Registry cleaners remove the Registry entry of the HP software, and hence the installer "thinks" that the software is remvoed/corrupted.

If you don't have the HP software in your PC, then please download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and install it. When you run the program, it will show a list of software installed using the Windows Installer program. Here, if you find the "TrayApp", "Fax" or "Unload", select it and click "Remove". It removes the Installer configuration files of the specified software.

I will analyze the SilentRunners log and post the reply. By the way, which software picks up the Downloader.NSIS.Agent.U? And, where are these infected files located?

The trojan downloaders were found on the bitdefender online scan. I also believe that microsoft office is installed and i am not able to get the unistall or the add remove progams will not find it either. when I was searching I opened a read me file( of microsoft office) and it had a few lines of commands and at the bottom it said uninstall.exe removed, and when I closed the file it was gone and know I can not find it. I dont recall where the files are located I will rescan and find out if possible.

I do have a hp printer hooked up and that is related to the hp digital imaging files.

Hi,

Open a new file in NotePad and copy the contents of the below "Quote" box to NotePad:-

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run
"WinUpdate.exe"=-

Now, in NotePad, go to File Menu > Save AS and type the filename as Fix.REG and save the file. Close NotePad.

Double-click on Fix.REG file and click "Yes" to merge the file to Registry.

Also, download SpywareBlaster and install it. Next, run it and enable all the protection. After this, close the SpywareBlaster.

Perform an online virus scan at Kaspersky Online Scanner (Click the "Kaspersky Online Scanner" button). Save the log it gives after the scan and please post back the same.

Did you reinstall the HP software or tried the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility?

First Off yes I did run the HP software and it no longer pops up. I am wondering if you have any suggestions on what to do with the microsoft office files. I have tried to run the program and nothing happens, and the startup menu has something about office there.

Hi,

Kaspersky log looks clean, except these malware files in the System Restore folders. These are the backups of the files taken by the Windows System Restore feature. These files do not pose any threat in their current state, but if the system is restore to a previous state these files are restoreed back to their original location.

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{947FDCFA-B5F8-4611-A7D5-74ABEED1086F}\RP4\A0000165.exe Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.PurityScan.bj skipped

If you are not getting any popups and if the system is running fine, you can delete the System Restore Points. Disabling and enabling the System Restore feature will delete the Restore Points. This page shows how to do it.

Can you please post back some of the file and folder names of MS Office? Did you installed it (or removed it) previously?

You can remove the stray Registry entries and broken shortcuts of applications like Office using CCleaner. Run CCleaner and click "Issues" button in the left pane. Then click "Scan for Issues" button. If it finds any stray Registry entries, it will list them. Now, click "Fix Selected Issues". It prompts to backup the entries that are being removed, here click "Yes" and click "Save" when it displays the file saving dialog box. Finally, click "Fix All Selected Issues" to remove the stray entries.

Ok ccleaner issues found some things. there are quite a few questionable objects under the tools section do you know what i should be seeing here?

I did a kaspersky scan and three trojans came back the same as last. I did not do the reg fix but would that actual solve these trojans from returning?

Spy bot will find the same four to seven files every time I restart my pc as well. I am about to give up but I know they are still there and it is driving me insane!!!!

Hi,
Sorry for my late reply. I recently shifted to a new city, and it took some time to get the Internet connection.

Please run HijackThis and click "Open Misc Tools Section". Next, click "Open Uninstall Manager". Here, click "Save List" button and file will be saved under the name uninstall_list.txt. Please open this file and copy its contents and post it here.

Are you using a firewall? If not, then download and install the free ZoneAlarm firewall.

Can you post back what things are detected SpyBot S&D?
