Give me a couple of minutes to have a look & we'll have it fixed in no time.

First of all I will get you to download & run a couple of programs that will clean up a lot of rubbish. Then I will get you to delete the nasties manually using hijackthis. Some of the entries may not be there after running the first two programs.

Download & instal Adaware from here
& update it B4 scanning.
In settings under 'scanning,' have it set to
'scan within archives,'
'scan active processes,'
'scan registry,'
'deepscan registry'
'scan my IE Favourites for banned URL's,'
'scan my host's file.'
In 'tweaks' under 'scanning engine' set it to 'unload recognised processes during scanning.'
Also in 'tweaks' under 'cleaning engine' set it to 'Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion' & 'let Windows remove files in use at next reboot.'
Select 'activate in-depth scan' before starting scan.
When the scan is finished select 'next.'
Remove what it finds by placing a check in the box to the left of the object. Reboot

Download & instal Spybot S&D from here. Update it B4 scanning. Go into settings & have it check for Beta releases also & download if available.
After the scan is complete, have spybot fix everything marked RED.
On the page that first opens when you start Spybot there is an option to immunise, you should do this. In the immunise section there is also a link to download Spywareblaster. Download that & you can keep it updated by selecting the same link that you use to download it. Reboot

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & Unzip HJT into it's own permanent folder before doing anything in order for it to create backups. (Not a temporary folder or the desktop & not directly on your hard drive). Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

Navigate to & delete the following whilst still in safe mode:

C:\Program Files\Srng< folder
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc< folder
C:\Program Files\DownloadWare< folder
C:\PROGRA~1\flapmediabeep< folder
C:\PROGRA~1\ezula< folder

Reboot normally after doing the above then post a fresh log plz.

Can you download the following app & run it, making sure to have one internet exploder window open. Save the log & paste the results back here.

Post the log from VX2Finder here, along with a fresh hijackthis log.

Thank you...I'm not sure if I got everything, but here's what it looks like..
Also, what's a VX2Finder?

User Agent String---
{B7F62E61-11C2-4393-B46C-81A8AABCFD36}

Just noticed that my link never worked B4. Can you make sure that you have the latest version of VX2Finder. 1.0.0.13 is the latest. It's in the link below.

Can you download the following app & run it, making sure to have one internet exploder window open. Save the log & paste the results back here.
VX2Finder

Post the log from VX2Finder here.

Oh, BTW. VX2 finds the Look2Me infection. Yours came up positive.

Once done follow these instructions to be rid of the infection:

Go off-line and Run VX2Finder again.

1.)Delete all files found(VX2Finder will "End Task" on
up to 2 instances of Rundll32.exe automatically)
You will get a message about "cannot delete this one"
matching the same name in the Guardian Key.

2.)Click "Open regedit" will take you right to
the Guardian Key(no need to search for it)

Right click GuardianUVWKU in the left hand pane and select permissions > advanced > and uncheck *Inherit permissions from parent....* > when prompted by a dialog box, click Remove*
Exit Regedit and reboot. Stay off-line for now still.

3.)On restart use VX2Finder again, select + delete the
last file, then click "User Agent$" and it will remove the User Agent String---
{B7F62E61-11C2-4393-B46C-81A8AABCFD36}
entry from the registry.

4.)Click "Open regedit" again, this time :
restoring the checkmark in "inheritable permissions"

Like so...
Right click GuardianUVWKU in the left hand pane and select permissions > advanced > and put a check in the box.... *Inherit permissions from parent....* >
Exit Regedit.

5.)Click on the "Guardian.reg" ..that deletes the Guardian
Key.

6.Use Find again and it should produce a clean log of blank values.

7.)Click "Restore Policy" to restore the Debug
policy altered in the look2Me installation.
Reboot.

Thanks to Option^Explicit for this procedure and program.

Plz post the new VX2 log.

Hi, I download VX2Finder again, the one you had. I didn't know I had the Look2Me infection, or what VX2Finder did. Thank you for all the help.

Here's the VX2 log. Hope I did okay. Appreciate your help!

Beautiful. Don't you just love these guys who create these programs & fixes!! No more Look2Me. If you want to post a fresh hijackthis log, you are welcome to.
If you noticed on your first log there were entries for *abetterinternet*, that is where you got the infection.
If you downloaded spywareblaster as per my 2nd post, this shouldn't happen again.

Hi, I have Spybot Search & Destroy, is that the same as spywareblaster. I believe this is the one you had me go to. .... I'm not sure how I got infected. I remember going to a greeting card, and this pop up said to hit yes to see the picture. :( I hit yes, and everything went wrong. I won't be doing that again. Also, are those free tool bars safe? Like yahoo, Ebay, ... :( Any advice for me to go by.

Here's my new log. Thank you so much for the help.

Nothing bad there that I can see. Spywareblaster is a different program to spybot. Once installed it prevents the installation of bad activeX controls, but you must keep it updated.
Yahoo is ok, not sure about the ebay one. Personally I do not trust anything regarding IE, that's why I use Opera browser. No activeX problems, No hijacks, any viruses that try to get in are caught in the Opera cache.

I just download spywareblaster, at Major Geeks. I must of over looked it! Sorry... Thanks again for bringing it up. Not used to this at all.

You need it all these days. Another good program from the same ppl who make spywareblaster is spywareguard. Gives a measure of realtime protection.
Run spywareblaster & at the status window, make sure that you enable all protection.

Thank you so much. I'm downloading SpywareGuard and will check the other links. I've also printed the how I got infected...

Thanks again...Patricia

My pleasure :)
