I removed the coolwebsearch prog from my computer, but now my browser, instead of directing me to smartfinder.biz, it takes me to a blank screen at " http:/// " . This usually occurs when i go to download a file or try to go to a web page that it can't find instead of sending me to the error screen, it skips over the file and takes me to it. This is my hijack this file:

I removed the coolwebsearch prog from my computer, but now my browser, instead of directing me to smartfinder.biz, it takes me to a blank screen at http:///.

Your logfile looks pretty clean, except for one thing:

O2 - BHO: OsbornTech Popup Blocker - {FF1BF4C7-4E08-4A28-A43F-9D60A9F7A880} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mshelper.dll

From another post, this appears to be a CoolWebSearch variant; hopefully, the newest CWShredder will take care of it.

You may also have a problem with your Hosts file. See http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm for information on where to find it and what to do with it, including using it to block ad cookies.

The following should be removed, but that's optional:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\Updreg.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

If you don't have Limeshop get rid of this too
O8 - Extra context menu item: LimeShop Preferences - file://C:\Program Files\LimeShop\System\Temp\limeshop_script0.htm

Very strange.

Well, i ran the cwsshredder before and ran spybot and adaware (just for the heck of it) but that is how i removed it. It seems that the coolwebsearch altered my regedit and now i just get a blank screen " http:/// " instead of smartfinder.biz . This all started when i left my computer unattended and my girlfriend download some screen saver jargon. I am usually paranoid and have always been very careful, scanning my rig with adaware and nav on a weekly basis, and reconfiguring my ie active x settings. thanks for the help so far. I need to know what value was changed in my registry. It obviously changed something, since i no longer have the malware on my drive, just a "damaged browser" you might say. Crunhie, I do have limewire and i believe if i remove that it won't allow the usuall prog to run. I have been using it for some time without problems. The first thing i did was check my hosts file and i only have the begining entry " 127.0.0.1 localhost" for the top line, so i believe im okay. This is really frustrating. Well, any other suggestions? Thanks for your time.

Could you plz post a fresh scan so we can determine if it is now clean?

Sorry bout that, here's the new log. I removed the osborntech pop up blocker and it seems to be running much better. I guess the words pop up blocker are decieving.

Cannot see anything in your log but it might be an idea to update both CWShredder & Adaware as they have both been updated heaps these last couple of days because of all the rubbish around.
Run shredder 1st then adaware & report back. If it doesn't work the first time, try again in safe mode.
Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
