Hi,

It would appear that one lapse in my usually good pc protection has led to me getting the hacktool.rootkit.

Norton kept on spamming me messages about it continuously so I did a full scan and it found it but couldn't remove it.

I have re-booted into safe mode and tried again, but still no joy.

I have since noticed that on reboot, the svchost.exe process is now taking up 80-90% of the cpu for about 6-8 minutes, then it closes itself (the process not the pc).

I have run norton, ad-aware and spybot and nothing has changed.

It picked up a file called nkit.dll which I have deleted but it hasn't done any good.

I have also noticed that norton's autoprotect is now disabled and I am unable to re-instate this. If I try manually it just gives me an error.

I have completed a scan via the norton website as well,

I have run HJT and included the report below.

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful as I have tried all the things I can think of.

Thanks
Andy
