Help with a computer I am fixing

Hi all,

I am struggling with a computer that I am trying to clean. Something has shut down McAfee and Windows Defender and won't allow it to connect to the internet via dial-up. I have run Spybot and Adaware and they both show clean, but I have been unable to run a virus scan as they are shut down on the system and I cannot get to an online scanner. The Hijack This log is below. Any guidance you can give me is appreciated.

log is clean. try uninstalling mcafee, and then reinstall it. what else? get this trial download and run it... link is at bottom of page. It will fit on a floppy.

I know you have checked your connection settings... Reinstall the AOL software....
And i know it is not related, but when you do get on the net update java via control panel, and then via add/remove pgms remove all older versions. 1.5.0.10 is current. Meanwhile you could try clearing the java caches.

Hi, I had this "New Win32" virus also. McAfee picked it up, tried "everytihing" out there: Stinger, un-installing, re-installing McAfee etc. No help on forums. Took me a week, finally found a mixture that worked and got rid of the virus.

First, make sure you have your copy of your OS you are currently using, Next in the Start/run.. type in the command SFC/scannow. This command will read your original system files, and replace or fix any system files that are corrupt or missing. The New Win32 virus corrupted and attached itself to the winlogon.exe system file, this is why you could not clean, disinfect or quarantine it.

After running the SFC/scannow command, start your pc in Safe mode with command prompt and do a "Boot Scan" and then I rebooted my system again in safe mode with command prompt and did a virus scan in DOS. The instructions for how to do the above 2 scans can be found on the McAfee website.

This corrected any system errors the virus did and also removed it from my system.
