Background:

I usually check my 13 y/o son's laptop once per month and run AdAware on it to clean out any unwanted stuff. Usually things aren't that bad with only 3-4 tracking cookies found. Yesterday, it found 25! I then looked at his Startup items (via msconfig) and saw a number of files that I didn't recognize. I Googled several of them (such as eginir.exe) and found that they were usually attributed to a trojan. I then ran, in no particular order:

cc cleaner
Spybot
The Shield Antivirus 2007

One of these found a trojan which was subsequently eliminated (sorry, no more details than that). The other files that I didn't recognize were still listed in the Startup tab in msconfig.

When starting the computer now, I do have the following error:

"The procedure entry point [EMAIL="?Open@LibModule@@QAE_NVString@@K@Z"]?Open@LibModule@@QAE_NVString@@K@Z[/EMAIL] could not be located in the dynamic link library ISCore.dll"

I then found this site. Per the FAQ, I downloaded and ran AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 which found no problems.

I have then downloaded HijackThis and wanted to see if someone would be kind enough to check my log and give me some hints on what to do next.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi and welcome to Daniweb forums :).

Can you please do the following.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E3215F20-3212-11D6-9F8B-00D0B743919D} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [endr] C:\WINDOWS\System32\endr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [esetupi] C:\WINDOWS\System32\esetupi.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eyboardk] C:\WINDOWS\System32\eyboardk.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [merrorw] C:\WINDOWS\System32\merrorw.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mserverd] C:\WINDOWS\System32\mserverd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mtaskm] C:\WINDOWS\System32\mtaskm.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nmddm] C:\WINDOWS\System32\nmddm.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ppenda] C:\WINDOWS\System32\ppenda.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pv6i] C:\WINDOWS\System32\pv6i.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sentprfe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\sentprfe.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SIMTFM] C:\WINDOWS\System32\SIMTFM.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [svidc32m] C:\WINDOWS\System32\svidc32m.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tdosn] C:\WINDOWS\System32\tdosn.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [treamcis] C:\WINDOWS\System32\treamcis.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [yssetups] C:\WINDOWS\System32\yssetups.exe

O11 - Options group: [INTERNATIONAL] International*

O16 - DPF: {288C5F13-7E52-4ADA-A32E-F5BF9D125F98} (CR64Loader Object) - http://www.miniclip.com/bestfriends/...GameLoader.dll

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

C:\WINDOWS\System32\endr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\esetupi.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\eyboardk.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\merrorw.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mserverd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mtaskm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nmddm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ppenda.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\pv6i.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sentprfe.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\SIMTFM.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svidc32m.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\tdosn.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\treamcis.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\yssetups.exe

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:

  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.

Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

-

Reboot.

===============

To help protect your system from hostile ActiveX content, or special 'downloadable' files:

Download, install and keep updated, SpywareBlaster. If you've installed it for the first time:

1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
2) Next, "Enable all protection".
3) Exit the program.

-

Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

Thanks for your help!

I followed your instructions, most of which worked.

2 problems still exist:

1. After following instructions, the following still exists in the HijackThis log:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {E3215F20-3212-11D6-9F8B-00D0B743919D} - (no file)

2. During startup, I still get the error message listed in my original message: The procedure entry point [EMAIL="?Open@LibModule"]?Open@LibModule[/EMAIL]............

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mike
