My friend asked me to help him get rid of some viruses on his computer. I loaded AVG FREE and got rid of tons of trojan horses. During the scan, it said threat found: wr-1-2000219.exe. It says that the file can not be accessed. I also tried to install Spybot but it kept closing during install. How do I get rid of it? Here is my HIJACK THIS REPORT JUST IN CASE.

reported a locked executable (wr-1-2000219.exe) and trouble getting removal tools to run; correctly pointed toward anti-spyware help. When a scanner says a file "cannot be accessed" the malware is usually active or protecting itself, so an on-disk scan alone often won’t remove it. The recommended workflow is to use an offline/rescue environment, capture the suspicious file for analysis, and only restore data after careful scanning.
Practical steps to follow:
- Boot the machine from trusted rescue media (an offline/bootable scanner) and run a full scan to remove processes and rootkits that block access. Microsoft’s offline tools and safety scanner are a good starting point (see Microsoft Safety Scanner and Defender Offline).
- If you can extract the file, upload it to a multi-engine scanner such as VirusTotal to get a quick assessment before deleting or restoring it.
- Produce a fresh HijackThis (or equivalent) log from Safe Mode and save it as plain text. Don’t use "fix checked" blindly—post the log to a dedicated malware-removal forum or show it to an experienced responder for targeted cleanup steps.
Post-cleanup cautions and hardening:
- If a reinstall was performed, make sure it was from clean media (not a possibly infected recovery partition), fully patch Windows, reinstall protections, and scan backups before restoring user files.
- Change all account passwords from a known-clean device and check router/modem settings (some malware tampers with DNS).
- If removal is uncertain or infection recurs, consider professional malware-removal help or replacing the drive.
Useful links:
- Microsoft Safety Scanner / Defender Offline:
- Submit or check files at VirusTotal: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload
If the original HijackThis log is still available, include it (plain text) when asking for further analysis so responders can point to the exact entries to remove.
