A rundll error that names a DLL (the inetkw.dll item in this thread) means Windows is attempting to load a library at startup but cannot find or run it. That commonly happens when an adware/spyware component has been removed (or quarantined) while a Run/RunOnce registry entry or a startup shortcut still points to the file. Given reported extensive spyware and an HJT scan with many suspicious entries, the error is most likely a leftover or active piece of malware rather than a benign system DLL.

Practical cleanup workflow (safe, staged approach):

  1. Disconnect the machine from the network and boot to Safe Mode (F8) to reduce active malware.
  2. Update anti-virus/anti-malware signatures, then run full scans with a reputable AV plus an on-demand anti-malware (for example, Malwarebytes/Spybot/Ad‑Aware).
  3. Obtain the current HijackThis (as @tayspen recommended) and save a new system scan log—do not use HJT’s “Fix” without confirmation. Use Autoruns or msconfig only to inspect startup entries.
  4. Locate any startup/registry entries that reference the suspicious DLL name and back up the registry before removing them. If the DLL file still exists, submit it to a multi‑engine scanner (VirusTotal) or scan it locally first. If the file is missing but a startup reference remains, remove the registry/startup entry.
  5. Reboot normally, re-scan, and verify the error is gone. If infection is extensive or system instability persists, a backup of personal files followed by a clean OS reinstall is the safest recovery.

Notes and cautions: editing the Registry or deleting files can break the system—always back up the registry and important data first. This thread was closed by for inactivity; for targeted assistance, a fresh HijackThis log created with the latest version should be posted in a new thread (see ’s advice about updating HJT).

First of all monomadrox, welcome to DaniWeb :)

We ask that members not tag their questions on to a thread previously started by another member (regardless of how similar your problem might seem). Not only does it divert the focus of the thread away from the original poster's problem, but it also makes it less likely that you yourself will get the individual attention that you need.

Please start your own thread and post your questions and HJT log in that thread.

For a full description of our posting guidelines and general rules of conduct, please see this page:

Thanks for understanding.

- your version of HJT is out of date. Please download the latest version, by doing the following.

Download hijackThis. Extract it to its own folder. Then run it and select. Do system scan and save log. Post the contents of the log that pops up.

Due to the fact that the member who originally started this thread has not responded over 1 year, this thread is considered abandoned and has been closed.

In accordance with our posting rules, other members having similar questions or problems need to start their own threads and post their questions there.
In order to help us help you most quickly, please include as much information about your problem as possible in your posts.

If the member who originally started this thread wishes to have the thread reopened, please send your request, including a link to this thread, to one of our moderators via email or Private Message.

Thank you.
