Hi all,
I've been thinking a lot lately about the evolving role of both Linux and Unix in modern computing. With Linux becoming a dominant force in desktops, servers, and cloud platforms, I’m curious how traditional Unix systems still hold up in 2025.
In your experience:
Where does Unix still shine over Linux, if at all?
Are the differences today mostly historical or still technically significant?

For those managing both environments, how seamless is integration?

This is purely a discussion thread — would love to hear how others view the current landscape of these two foundational technologies

There hasn't been just one "true" UNIX in many decades. MacOS and other current operating systems have paid to be certified under the UNIX trademark.

As such, such trademark and certifications carry a cost that Linux doesn't have bear.

Fin: No one cares about this. OS Wars are dull and boring.
