New mini - with 10.6 - has been shipped. Should have it any day. :icon_cheesygrin:
This is my second Mac. This time I want to set up an Admin. Acct. and a separate User Acct., without admin privileges, for daily use. Will this new acct. be able to access my old files, which are backed up on an ext. HD? If not, how can this be resolved?

OK, I continued to research after above post and learned that what I had hoped to do will cause problems. Can someone verify what I think I know now.

I can keep the same account name(s) and ownership/access will not be a problem. I have a reason for wanting to not do that but certainly can.

Is the "short name" the real account name/identifier? In other words, could I change the user name but continue to use the same short name?
