I am but a lowly C++ dabbler, but I can tell you this: you will want some sort of class to contain the attributes of each stock. But A-Drag is right; you need to pound out some code (even if you're not sure about it) in order for us to help you without doing all your work for you.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Um...my compiler (Bloodshed Dev-C++) doesn't like it. Can you give me just the specific lines of code to link a library (for example, glu.h or glut.h) so that I can use it?

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

That I would also like to do...I need to draw spheres for the game I'm working on...hell, I need a lot of glu stuff. How do you do that?

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Explain please...I am two or three steps above n00b in C++.
I don't know that stuff so well.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

I cannot link GL Utility Toolkit (lack know-how), so I need a way using only gl/gl.h and windows.h to get keyboard input. Help please!

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Writing an array-sorting algorithm has been the bane of intro-C++ courses since the language was invented, I think. Being a hobbyist, I try to avoid having to sort. If you just need the max and min, what I posted should work fine. If not, ask someone more experienced.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

What I would do is this instead of the "read" loop:

int tmax, tmin;

tmax=temp[0];
tmin=temp[0];

for(int i=0; i<31; i++){
    if(temp[i]>tmax){
        tmax=temp[i];
    }
    if(temp[i]<tmin){
        tmin=temp[i];
    }
}
cout<<"The maximum temperature is "<<tmax<<".\n";
cout<<"The minimum temperature is "<<tmin<<".\n";

Do you see where I'm going with this?

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

I am but a humble part-time hobbyist programmer, but I have found Dev-C++ to work very well. It pwns.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

I am a high school junior. Last year in my English (as in lit, not ESL) class, four or five students were caught cheating on a quiz. Not only did they all have *very* similar wording on some of the short answer questions (they all sat near each other), they also:

LEFT THEIR CHEAT SHEET ON THE FLOOR AFTER CLASS!!!

How dumb can you get???

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

hey, don't underestimate my colleagues!

DimaYasny, since you hail from the great land of Ireland (and I flip the bird to anyone who confuses Ireland and Scotland), I shall refer you to the Darwin Awards:

Dogs have dog breath. Cats, however, have fishbreath, which suggests that breath is better described by the eaten items than by the breath's owner. Ergo, it is indeed a dog-eat-dog world out there.
(I actually made that one up!)

A friend of mine assures me that at KFCs in the South, chicken breast is called "chicken keel" due to bible belt philosophy. (Can't have people leering pervertedly at the menus, after all!)

I shall quote the Evanston Chem/Phys class of 2008:
A computer once beat me at chess but it was no match for me at kick boxing.
Ian Finder, please do not kill me for posting that.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

How about the old "Press any key" joke?
I wonder if people ever did call in looking for the "any" key???

Stick it in a computer at work or school and leave it for people to wonder about. Come back next week and see it's still there.

Make like the Mythbusters team would and fire it out of a flintlock rifle using TNT dust as gunpowder. :)

Lucky me, I have both.

I have a POS Dell Dimension 4600. It recently went into Krakatoa mode (i.e., whenever I try to start it up it <explodes>). The Windows XP system we had on there proved to be beyond repair (whenever we try to "repair install" the blasted thing just reboots repeatedly until shut down), so we had to install a new OS alongside the old one.
Here's the biggest problem: me and my sister's documents were declared "private", meaning only our users could open them. Now, those documents are inaccessible because our new users are different from the old ones with the old OS. How do I break the "access denied" message and get my files??? HALP!!!1!

I take offense at people of any religion who go around trying to convert people. Putting it on national television just gives them extra attention.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

You're not confusing silent majority with the Moral Majority, right?

Moral Majority?
*shudder* televangelists:S
In my humble opinion, televangelists are like clowns: they get more attention than they deserve, and they are pure EBIL!
Or maybe I'm just saying that because <german>ich bin ein Jude</german>

Anyone seen that Seinfeld episode?? The one where Jerry is going out with that woman who is a complete idiot but is physically very attractive? Very funny, if you haven't seen it you should.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

I wish the middle hadn't been forgotten. Conservatives and liberals will really need to think less radically and compromise more with each other if the American government is to work well (or actually at all).

venomlash 55 Junior Poster
EnderX.jump(shark);

Yup, you are over the line. I, as a professed liberal, may poke fun at the arguments of those on the far right (Ann Coulter etc.), but I will not go so far as to condemn an entire political party. I like and agree with many Republicans (okay, the Govenator [Arnold Schwarzenegger] is at the top of that list).
Lardmeister knew it was a joke (it's kind of intuitive), so you are just using a thread about humor in office to be needlessly partisan.
Back down, EnderX, before I am forced to start a flame war.:angry:

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Al Franken is a comedian, he is very funny. Bill O'Reilly is supposed to be an "unbiased" Fox newsperson (that is his only joke).

Ouch! Ding, ding, KO!

...aaand O'Reilly gets so mad he grows another splotch.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

I have to agree, that is a sorry bunch of humanity!!
They all use the favorite tactic of the ultra right extremists, intimidation and low brow insults! Not one of the bunch has any humor!

Thank you Lardmaster! Good to get some backup here.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Scuse, EnderX. Al Franken is highly partisan (it's his job) so one should take what he says with a grain of salt. However, he uses actual facts in his reasoning and is not in the habit of making ad hominem attacks. (That he called a book Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and Other Observations is making fun of the extolled Mr. Limbaugh's tactic of making ad hominem attacks, including the famous incident in which he called Chelsea Clinton the "White House Dog").

I shall now give you that info on the people I mentioned earlier having called liberals in general "sissies" or some similar construction:
Anne Coulter: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07092/774483-53.stm nuff said
Bill O'Reilly: rant against Kerry, 11/29/04, http://mediamatters.org/items/200412010004;

Back as soon as I can find more info. Chew on those for a while!

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

The good thing about the brains option is that this is someone you can be friends with as well as go out with; "this, that and the other", for those of you who watch Seinfeld.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Did you even read what I wrote??? I was saying that yes, we do have some slightly crazy-partisan people on the left, but the conservative nutjobs are even worse. Like Anne Coulter, you just took a quote out of context.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Democrats-as-sissies is just another myth pushed by

#include "fox\hannity.h"
#include "anncoulter.h"
#include "fox\oreilly.h"
#include "fox\limbaugh.h"

I not be likin' them...Al Franken, for example, is opinionated and partisan, but has never called Chelsea Clinton the "White House dog" or other such ad hominem atrocities perpetuated by the MurdochRGoonSquad.cpp

Democrats are sticking up for our side...that's why Gonzo is toast;)

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

By project file do you mean a *.dev? I can't find one. And how do you create a dll project?

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

OK, I appreciate the help! I'll get right on that!

...how do you compile the DLL??? (I know, I don't know a whole lot)

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

I'm not as good with software as I'd like to think I am. Where does the glut32.lib file go? I can't find any .lib files to go by on my hard drive except for in my JAVA stuff.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Sorry, Ancient Dragon. Its the readme-win32 file in the "glut-3.7.6-bin.zip" link. Do you have any idea what causes that type of linker error? Thanks!

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Thanks Garth, I reckon from previous programs that they both pause the program in someway. Someone shoot me down if Im wrong though?!

Glad to have been of service. Um...My name is Gabriel, not Garth; I was just quoting Wayne's World. Just putting that out there.:D

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

I'm new to C++ graphics, and a friend tipped me off to OpenGL. I'm currently trying to work with the GL Utility Toolkit ( #include gl\glut.h ), which I had to download from the web. Due to all the download sites being intended for people with older versions of Windows (I think), I had to install the *.h, *.o, and *.dll files by hand, but going with the locations specified by the readme that came with the download (from http://www.xmission.com/~nate/glut.html).
However, whenever I try to work with glut.h, I get a cartload of linker errors that yell at me about an undefined reference for any number of functions. Sample: " [Linker error] undefined reference to `__glutInitWithExit@12' ". I am using Bloodshed Dev-C++ version 4.9.9.2.
Please help!!!

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

cin.ignore() I always learned is used to pause the program until the user strikes the enter key. (This makes it useful for getting data displayed with cout because without such a pause statement, the program would quit when done.)
cin.get() I am not familiar with, but I suspect that it may be getLine(cin, outputString) 's little brother. Don't take my word on that though; ask someone more experienced or consult a book.
Party on, Garth!

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

lasher511, you are right on many counts. I also believe that he should have had to pay for the donut and other costs, and I am a firm believer in sending drug addicts to rehab rather than prison. However, the bad thing about the death sentence is that if someone is later found innocent, there's no way to recompense them. Remember the work of those Northwestern University students to clear the names of some people on death row? If they were already executed, then the state technically would have committed the murder of an innocent.

<clarification>Poor as in not filthy rich. This includes people who are just barely getting by but still make enough to pay taxes on. i.e., my family and other similar cases.</clarification>

On the topic of punishments working out well for someone:
Two years ago a student at my high school was caught hacking into admin-only areas of the school network. He was given a six-day suspension that could be served a day at a time throughout any part of the semester and would not go on his permanent record.
So he basically got to cut class for six days. :)

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Lardmeister, I may sound impolite for saying this, but this is the second time in as many minutes I have looked at one of your posts and thought "What the hey???" (The first was the "world leaders' sense of humor" thread.)

Yes he gets free housing, but he also gets shut up for 30 YEARS!!!
And that's okay with you? Pardon my Spanish, but "¿es posible que estás en Texas?"
Only Homer Simpson (maybe) would trade a prison sentence like that for a donut from any retailer. Even <chuckle> LARD LAD! </chuckle>

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Lardmeister--
If our P.O.T.U.S. actually was charitable, he'd watch out for the little man. That covers giving tax breaks to the poor rather than the rich, just like he claimed falsely to having done. What you need is less lard:P and more news/facts (i.e., news with facts, not the eminently fair and balanced Fox News).

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

I'd vote for Barack if I were old enough. I say, enough with his relatively small amount of experience, he has people around him who he can trust the advice of, and its high time for some solid reinforcement of environmental protection laws. The illustrious Mr. Obama also has done so little in terms of possible scandals, the Anne Coulter Fan Club etc. has been reduced to MAKING FUN OF HIS NAME! That's all they've got to use against him!

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Dubya has no sense of humor, so it matches nicely with his lack of senses of: ethics, charity, secular government, and last but not least, the common type of sense. This further proves my point that the US has gotten very few good things out of Texas; Lovie Smith (Bears!) and the Alamo are some notable exceptions, but I'm sure there are others.

venomlash 55 Junior Poster

Really just sick that a judge would lock him up for almost half a lifetime for what is in essence shoplifting. It's like the Jena case where a few kids were accused of attempted murder for a fight. The difference is that in this case it's idiocy rather than racism...
