Hello, long time not posting on Daniweb.

I have a problem with 301 redirecting, it's a bit complicated to explain but it's actually quite simple. Please let me know if my explanation is confusing you, I'll give it another shot.

  1. I have a website hosting account with firm A and a website there I will call website-A. However, I used to be hosted at firm B with which I had another website (I'll call it website-B). The domain name for website-B has nameservers from firm A and the files for it are located at http:/website-A.com/folder-for-website-B.

    2.Now, I changed the file names of a couple of php pages at website-B for better SEO, and I tried 301 redirecting the old pages with the old names to the new ones so as not lose google standing on SERPs. However, since the domain for website-B is at my old hosting firm (with which I now only have a single domain, no webhosting), I can't redirect those pages in the TLD format (redirect to http://website-B.com/new-page.php), I can only redirect http://website-A.com/folder-for-website-B/old_page.php to http://website-A.com/folder-for-website-B/new-page.php.

This is a problem because when I enter the address manually (http://website-B.com/old_page.php) the browser still opens that page and not the new one because in cPanel I can't even choose to redirect the website-B domain name. So basically the best I can do is redirect http://website-A.com/folder-for-website-B/old_page.php but that's not at all useful.

Please help out

I haven't found the problem. However, I can't see yours. I've opened the page in IE6 and clickedo Kommentare but a new page opens and nothing drops.

Yes, that's the link you should be looking at. It's the page where I'm making improvements and trying to fix the problem.

Strange, it doesn't look the same to me. In IE6 the right div sticks out of the main container. Here, I've taken screenshots:

FF: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Poslanik/Screenshots/ff.jpg
IE6: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Poslanik/Screenshots/ie6.jpg

Autocraft, I've tried applying your fix and there is some improvement. The images now don't display below the right div but somehow that right div sticks out of the main container.

But I don't use width in the left div. Only on the right and there are no width and padding/margin style put together.

Here:

#right-col {float:right; width: 19%; padding:5px;}
.ul-menu {margin-top: 8px; margin-bottom: 8px; border: solid 1px #cccccc; border-bottom: solid 3px #cccccc; color: #666666;}
ul.ul-menu {margin: 0; padding-left: 1px; list-style: none;}
/* ul.ul-menu li {border-bottom:1px solid #cccccc;} */
ul.ul-menu a {margin-left: 5px; color: #666666; text-decoration: none;}
ul.ul-menu a:hover {color: #cc0000;}

span.slide {float: right; margin-right: 3px;}

.info {margin-top: 5px; margin-bottom: 5px; background-color: #777777; padding: 5px;}
.info h4 {margin: 0; color: #cc0000;}
.info p {margin: 0; margin-top: 3px; margin-bottom: 3px;}
.info ul {margin: 0; padding: 5px;}
.info li {list-style: none;}
.info a {color: #cc0000; text-decoration: underline;}
.info a:hover {color: #cc0000;}

Also please check my last post please: http://www.daniweb.com/forums/post579538-5.html

What could be causing that?

I've managed to make improvement.

I've changed the width on the divs from px to % and now when you load the site in IE6 it appears to look 'fine'. But when you hover over one of the links bellow the header, the main div where Plogger is quickly shifts down where it was before, below the right div. What the hell is this? How can this be?

You can see this be visiting the live version http://galerija.myartsonline.com/

Maybe it's obvious to you but I'm not that good with CSS and I can't find the error. I've tried doing as you said, removing padding and margins in a couple of important Plogger's CSS classes but that hasn't helped.

Here, this is another page I made to demonstrate that the problem must be in one of Plogger's CSS files. I'll continue looking but so far I haven't found the problem.

Hello,

I've recently started work on a website that's basically going to be a huge gallery of pictures.

I've downloaded a web template from oswd.org and started implementing my gallery (I'm using Plogger).

In Firefox, Opera, Safari and IE7 everything works fine but in IE6 the 2 columns, one with the gallery and the second with an ad block (which is currently a picture that represents the ad), won't display side by side. I know quite a bit of CSS and I tried poking at the code but haven't found a solution.

Could you please help me get this page to work in IE6? I'd really appreciate it.

Oh, almost forgot. Before I added Plogger, the page looked fine in IE too. So I'm guessing it's something to do with the code that Plogger added.

Current page: http://galerija.myartsonline.com/
The page before I put Plogger: http://learn-croatian.com/svasta/index.php
Plogger's CSS files (gallery.css is the only file that matters, the problem must be in there):
http://galerija.myartsonline.com/css/gallery.css
http://galerija.myartsonline.com/css/admin.css
http://galerija.myartsonline.com/css/greybox.css
http://galerija.myartsonline.com/css/lightbox.css
http://galerija.myartsonline.com/css/tabs.css

NOTE: The pages aren't the same because I've continued work on the 'live' version but essentially they're the same, meaning I haven't added any 'important' code, just made it look better by changing colours and adding some background pictures. Anyways, the problem was present from the beginning.

Any ideas?

Hello,

I'm using Windows XP Professional SP2 and I have a big problem. I managed to fry my old RADEON 9800XT and then bought a X1650 graphics card.

However, when I tried to install a new driver from ATI's official site everything wend downhill. When I restarted the computer after the installation the whole screen was messed up. I could see some strange bars, lines and whatnot. All in all I had to revert to last known good configuration in order to get my computer to work.

My current driver is the one which comes together with the graphics card and the version is 6.14.0010.6660 from 12.16.2006.

I have tried downloading drivers from http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html and http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx. The driver from ATI's website is CATALYST for XP version 7.10 and the one from ASUS is 8.401 and it says it's 'ASUS VGA card display driver version 8.401 for Windows XP' however when I was installing it it looked the same as ATI's drivers. The only difference is that the drivers from ATI's website are 45 MB big and the ones from ASUS' are 80. I have no idea why this is so since they are both obviously ATI's drivers...

I have no idea what to do, I have tried everything I know and have absolutely no idea why these official drivers don't work and I need new drivers because my comp frequently resets itself when I play games.

Please help.

Ok so there are many downloads on this site and each has an MD5 hash. How do I check if my downloaded file is not corrupted with that MD5 hash?

poslanik 0 Light Poster

Any ideas?

poslanik 0 Light Poster

Hi,

I'd like to know how to verify downloaded files against checksums such as md5, sha1 and crc32.

I found a few files that come with md5 and sha1 files, however I don't know how it works. I have the valid md5 and sha1 checksum in the file but I need to retrieve the file's checksum to verify it against the md5 and sha1 files.

How do I do that?

poslanik 0 Light Poster

Thanks Boško, thanks everyone.

I've tried replacing id with class but no help :( I've also tried changing & with & but no help. I've virtually tried everything the validator told me to fix.

I just can't figure this one out.

poslanik 0 Light Poster

I know, but that's of little help. I used that firefox html validator add-on and look what it said:

http://learn-croatian.com/svasta/skrin.jpg

So I'm guessing that those & in the links are causing the problem to w3c's validator. However, if that was the case I don't know how anyone would be able to validate their sites...

And remember, everything is fine in IE and Opera.

P.S. I've changed all & to & but the problem wasn't fixed. There was also the copyright sign at the beginning of the file because of which you couldn't validate the page. I've removed this and it's now possible to do so. Try to validate it again please, maybe this time you'll find more info.

poslanik 0 Light Poster

So I've installed this addon called Html validator version 0.8.3.9 and it told me that 3 divs needn't be there. I removed them but the problem hasn't gone away.

This is one of the few bugs which inflict only Firefox... very rare.

I guess nobody else has any ideas on how to fix it?

poslanik 0 Light Poster

Hvala :)

But I haven't noticed any warnings, just code. I opened the code of the index page and of the page where the anchors are situated.

poslanik 0 Light Poster

I've checked several sites that use anchors and my code if flawless. It's nothing complicated, 2 tags and that's it.

Plus I can't code what you said. I'm guessing it's a css thing but I need to find that loose div tag.

Bosko could you please tell me how did Firefox tell you that there are unclosed div tags?

poslanik 0 Light Poster

Could you tell me how to check for that myself? I'm guessing with the web developer extension somehow?

poslanik 0 Light Poster

Hi.

The style:

.naslov_blok {font-variant:small-caps;letter-spacing:1px;font-weight:bold;}

- Nothing is dinamically formed but I use php includes.

- No, as far as divs and spans go because it would mess up my layout.

- Like I said I use includes, only that.

Hi,

I made a few links that lead to another page on my website but each to a different anchor and when I click in Firefox on one of the links my whole page gets cropped on the destination page. Everything before the anchor is hidden. Please help me! Visit the source file link with Firefox and click on one of the three links in the dashed div space.

Source file address: http://learn-croatian.com/apdejt
Destionation file address: http://learn-croatian.com/apdejt/usluge.php

Here's the code I used for making anchors on the destination page (it's named usluge.php):

...<span class="naslov_blok"><a name="prijevod">professional translations</a></span>...

And here's the link I used on the source file:

...<small><a href="usluge.php#prijevod">read more</a></small>...

Here is a screenshot of the problem:

http://learn-croatian.com/svasta/screenshot.jpg

Thank you in advance!

poslanik 0 Light Poster

I saved the files in UTF without BOM and everything's working fine. Thanks anyway.

poslanik 0 Light Poster

No, I code in notepad. You opened the wrong address :) you need to open the apdejt folder.

P.S. I received your PM, we'll talk over ICQ.

poslanik 0 Light Poster

P.S. I just had my friend take a screenshot of the site in IE and it came out same as mine. He's having problems too.

Does anyone know why including files with php screwes up pages in IE?

poslanik 0 Light Poster

Yes I do have a piece of code before DOCTYPE, I've said so in my initial post. However, in Firefox it looks fine. I don't know why everything is ok in your IE, because in mine it looks like this (the third column starts after the fold):

[IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v163/Poslanik/Svasta/skrini.jpg[/IMG]

The code you pasted looks fine (the metas are ok and everything) but I can't get it to work in IE. Could you please take a screenshot of the site while viewing it with IE?

poslanik 0 Light Poster

Hi,

I'm having a classic 'doesn't work in IE but works in FF' problem.

I have a site http://learn-croatian.com/apdejt and I wanted to make it easier for me to update metas in all pages with help from php. I'd change the php variables in a central file which is included in every page. Here's what I did:

<?php include ("meta.txt"); ?>
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title><?php echo "$naslov"; ?>Homepage</title>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<meta name="description" content="<?php echo "$opis"; ?>" />
<meta name="keywords" content="<?php echo "$kljucne"; ?>"/>
<meta name="author" content="<?php echo "$autor"; ?>" />
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" />
<meta name="copyright" content="Learn-Croatian.com" />
<meta http-equiv="content-language" content="en, hr" />

<!--[if IE]>
<style type="text/css">
* html .ex{padding-bottom:32767px;margin-bottom:-32767px;}
</style>
<![endif]-->
</head>

Here is the meta.txt file:

<?php
$opis="Learn-Croatian.com is the site for grasping the basics of the Croatian language for free!";
$kljucne="horvatsko, chorvatsko, book, croatian, lessons, lesson, adjectives, verbs, nouns, pronouns, croatia, language, hrvatski, hrvatska, croatian, jezik, learn, free, phrasebook, phrases, recordings, translations, tourist, tourism, holidays, vacations, trips, istria, istra, slavonija, slavonia, dalmatia, dalmacija, zagreb, no, charge, online, trips, vacations, holidays, kroatiska";
$naslov="Learn Croatian for free | ";
$autor="Tomislav - contact@learn-croatian.com";
?>

Well, it doesn't work in IE 6. Please hit the link I gave above with FF and IE both. You'll see what I'm talking about. However, if I don't use the include command and just insert the code from the meta.txt file everything works fine (except the fact that …
