Why do you accept something so blindly? Have you ever doubted your faith?

I don't accept my faith blindly, there's nothing that has distorted my vision.
Yes, I have doubted once, if there was a God and if everything I believed in was just a huge lie. But the real proof is revealed in my life, God has done so much for me that it would be utterly absurd if I didn't believe in Him. Say what you want about coincidences, emotions, or feelings... but the truth is that there is nothing better than knowing you have hope through every situation.

Well no kidding.. Why do you think so many people convert from atheism to Christianity later in life? Atheism offers no hope and no afterlife. This is not something that people believe lightly.. and after people see that their life is ending, they become very fearful (wouldn't you?) So they convert just in case..

Yes, of course I would. But I was just saying, although atheism continues to grow, a lot of them convert in the end. Seems kinda pointless to me.

Anyways.. back to my point.. Are all the catholics wrong for not taking the bible literally?

I guess not, even tho the Bible does say it is true and without error... and it is the Word of God. But I guess as long as they believe in Jesus Christ... then that's all that really matters.

christina>you 820 Posting Sage Featured Poster

Eh, I found a better site. Everyone uses Wikipedia.

http://www.adherents.com/adh_branches.html#Christianity

But I mean seriously, look at how many branches there are in the category of "Catholic." I would be included in the Pentecostal category.

christina>you 820 Posting Sage Featured Poster

I am an atheist. I am simply pointing out that you are wrong.. the Catholics were in fact, the first christians.

Yes, I knew they were the first Christians. And I also knew that Protestants broke off from them. I've always known that.

christina>you 820 Posting Sage Featured Poster

Um.. Peter, Jesus' disciple (Do you know who he is?) was the first POPE! It is documented that the very first christians were catholic. The protestants broke away from the catholic church. Why do you think that all the other denominations are grouped under 'protestant', and why do the catholics have the MOST members than any other religion on the EARTH. The Catholics did not take the bible literally, and they are the dominate christian denomination.

Wait, wait, wait. Are you contradicting yourself here? I thought you were atheist. And everything in the Bible is incorrect... science rules the universe.. hmm?

Can you really plan a person for believing in god hundreds of years ago? No you cannot. As you cannot blame a person for believing the world is flat if the the society dictates so and the society is against free ideas and expresssion.

They were scientists. They very well could have believed in anything they wanted because they were considered intelligent and well-educated. More like geniuses. Like I have already said in my last post, in Newton's system of physics, God is essential to the nature and absoluteness of space. Einstein recognized the impossibility of a non-created universe and firmly denied atheism. William Thomson Kelvin was another scientist that I didn't mention who helped laid the foundation of modern physics. He was a committed Christian and creationist, who was certainly more religious than the average for his era. Interestingly, his fellow physicists, George Gabriel Stokes (1819-1903) and James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879) were also men of deep Christian commitment, in an era when many were nominal, apathetic, or anti-Christian. The Encyclopedia Britannica says "Maxwell is regarded by most modern physicists as the scientist of the 19th century who had the greatest influence on 20th century physics; he is ranked with Sir Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein for the fundamental nature of his contributions."

Do you honestly think middle-class people of their time would really question their intelligence? Whether it be atheism or Christianity? These were the men who shaped the foundation of science, genetics, mathematics, philosophy, mechanics, astronomy, and …

Yeah, I better go to sleep soon too... but I'd like to say this one last thing....

Did you know that there were a lot of famous scientists that believed in God...? such as:

Johannes Kepler
,
Galileo Galilei,
Gregor Mendel,
Albert Einstein (although he never came to belief in a personal God), he still recognized the impossibility of a non-created universe. The Encyclopedia Britannica says of him: "Firmly denying atheism, Einstein expressed a belief in "Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the harmony of what exists." This actually motivated his interest in science, as he once said as a young physicist: "I want to know how God created this world, I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts, the rest are details." Einstein's famous epithet on the "uncertainty principle" was "God does not play dice" - and to him this was a real statement about a God in whom he believed. A famous saying of his was, "Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."
Isaac Newton was a genius, everyone knows that... but what was less known was the fact that he was devoutly religious and saw numbers as involved in understanding God's plan for history from the Bible. He did a considerable work on biblical numerology, and, though aspects of his beliefs were not orthodox, he thought theology was very important. In his system of …

How dare you blaspheme! Or did you do that before the beginning of time? Anyway,,,

The world was created 6013 years ago? Horsehockey!

The world was created 6000000000ish years ago? Mere orders of magnitude do not give correctness!

You fools. If only you knew the world was created 30 seconds ago. And I have knowledge that this is true. Sure, you can't prove that the Universe existed more than 30 seconds ago. But I don't need proof. Instead, I have not-proof. Not-proof is good enough for me. I don't need those leftist intellectualists to tell me what to think. I believe in the new time religion; it's good enough for me. Than those so-called "intellectuals," I think I am smarter besides. So if anything, that makes them stupiddectuals.

You don't think the Universe is only 30 seconds old? Can you prove it? You can't. Idiot. What were you thinking, even considering an older Universe? The universe just acts like it's older than 30 seconds. Sure, you've got memories of artifacts like the Bible and the x86 architecture and other things that don't belong in the 21st century, but that's just planted there to make it look like the Universe is older than 30 seconds. That's because God B likes messing with people's heads. Those who fall for his tricks get sent to Heck. I know this because I have not-proof in the truth.

Just think about it this way. What's the safe thing to believe? What if the 30-second Universe …

No kidding.. Christianity tends to have the "My way or the highway" attitude towards all others. Christians just want to convert everyone, and don't really give a damn about the people's previous beliefs/customs/traditions. The Christians are too aggressive, and unyielding to any ideas that may seem unorthodox.

Ok, I understand that everyone here hates Christians, and I'm sorry you see them in that light. But please don't look at me with that point of view. If I seem too agreesive or unyielding, then please excuse me. But what about the fact that I haven't said anything bad about Athiests, Agnostics, etc.? I could say a lot of things concerning your beliefs, but I don't. I could say that Athiests are ignorant and in denial, but I realize that not all of them are like that. I listen to you and share my side of the story. Please do the same for me. :)

What happens to people who have never known god? People who were never forced to convert by missionaries.. or who never grew up with faith.. or who believed in some other religion? They may never have been baptized, followed the ten commandments, or even known about christianity. What happens to them? If there was some god, would he not want us all to believe and praise him?

I think it is our (Christians) duty to try and spread the Gospel of Jesus to people who just don't know or have never heard about Him, but if …

OT

Who said something like Christianity is the strangest religion set up by man, to forgive sins with murder?

I thought it was Thomas Jefferson but not sure. It was one of the founding fathers. Why everyone claims our founding fathers were Christian is beyond me, most of them were anti-christian.

Forgiving sins with murder was a belief in Judaism, in the Old Testament. You had to sacrifice a spotless lamb in the temple to become sinless again. When Jesus came, He was known as the "spotless lamb" whose purpose was to seek and save the lost. That is why He was crucified, but many do not understand this.

Most of our founding fathers were Christians (Protestant and Catholic).

No, Evolution is not a proven fact;
a theory is not a series of proven theorums but only a series of tests (or observations) backed-up at times by successful, single experiments that may-or-may-not-be able to be repeated. How does this prove Evolution?

As to reading the Bible: most of the people in this discussion are Christians and yes, we read the Bible-- what is your point? Are you suggesting we use Google as a sort of reference for the Bible?:lol:

I agree with MattyD :)

christina>you 820 Posting Sage Featured Poster

I acutally don't like believing that we evolved from monkeys either, but this is our opinion. :)

Question> Before Pope John Paul II, he released a long statement promoting a new belief of God's Creation. According to the Pope, it is still OK to believe in evolution, as long as one still believes that the Universe itself was created by God (which I myself believe).

I agree.
Although my opinion is a little different ... I do believe we have somewhat evolved from what we were in the beginning, but not to the extent of being a monkey. I believe that God created the universe with Adam and Eve as described in the Bible... but I also think that we have changed since then...

christina>you 820 Posting Sage Featured Poster

I just don't like believing in something that says humans evolved from monkeys. But hey, that's my opinion, right?

So I have a question for you, if you are a Christian but you believe in evolution, what are your beliefs? Does that mean you don't believe in Creationism?

Duki commented: me either +2
christina>you 820 Posting Sage Featured Poster

First off, Darwin’s theory of evolution is just that- a theory. But do any of you know what a theory is? A theory is a scientific hypothesis that has been tested thousands of times, and has been proven true every single time. Evolution is fact, and whoever denies this is a blind fool.

As for the bible, it is not literal... and not intended to be. There are several things throughout the bible that have been proven false (the age of the earth, for example). The Bible is simply a tool in which the ideas of Christianity are told through parables. Since we know there is some deceit in the Bible, the entire book is subject to deception and therefore we can't trust any of it.

You are wrong my friend.

Evolution has NOT been proven true as fact. It was a theory that came from one man's head, Charles Darwin. But how can you deny something that has been proven since the beginning?

Tell me this, where is there "deceit in the Bible," if you can tell me or show me a scripture that you believe is "deceitful" then please show. Otherwise don't talk unless you have something to back yourself up.

christina>you 820 Posting Sage Featured Poster

Yes, people will do what they want.. but that doesn't mean we as friends can't persuade otherwise. People can change, it just takes someone who has hope to bring them out of their hopeless pit.
