Okay here goes my bone headed inquiry for the day.

I am interested in taking classes to get my IT certification. Since I know so little (nothing) about what I am asking, I am not sure I am being thorough in the question i am asking.

I want to be able to build websites, and understand computers (mostly) to tweak and fix most problems. As well as set up a network etc.

Dell offers some classes and I wanted you guys opinions on those and which ones in specific I need. I am hoping to eventually make my own little business off of this skill. Babysteps!

All input is appreciated, unless you want to tell me I'm a bone head  . Thanks!

Steffie

Ok I have NO clue what kind of beast I have on this machine BUT, I am running Windows XP Pro with Media Center 2005. I have McAfee for antivirus, Spy Sweeper, AVG Anti Spyware, Windows Washer, CCleaner and I have run them all and it comes up clean when clearly its NOT. This is a brand new computer. Just got it Jan 6th so not even 2 months old yet. I suspect the problem orginated from Paltalk but have no clear evidence. Here is my HJT Log.

If there is...what do I need to do now? My new laptop came with nothing but a power cord and an owners manual. I sorta makes the Media center edition kinda useless to me and I wanna use my new toy so bad and don't know enough about computers to figure it out.

Got a brand new computter and I have been trying to debunk the preinstalled crap, as well as upgrade the MS office 2003 to ms office pro 2003.

Now i keep getting missing or corrupted file messages for many different things. particularly, cursors, and themes.

Also the defect and repair scan will not complete. The windows uopdates icon in startup tray is always yellow and telling me there are updates and when i go to add remove i notice there are tons of duplicate updates installed. also for a brand new computer...sure does seem slow.

ok i got the time and i read all of you text
man do i really really feel bad about you
thr first thing you should have done is not purchasing a dell but since you did we will go to the second step
make sure u have all the parts that dell send you so IF you go to court you present all of your evidence that they send hundreds of items just to fix your laptop
the idea to get it checked by a comp hardware store is really good but make sure u dont spend too much money on it like 200$
CALL DELL one more time and ask them if you are getting a new system because you dont want to deal with anymore crap
make sure u call them frequently and ask them if the laptop has arrived at their warehouse cuz they will say that the laptop arrived after your warranty expired so you need to act fast
that all i have to say
never purchase a dell AGAIN and dont recommend it to any of your friends
P.S
i want to go to hawai

I guess the REQUEST go lost in the midst of all my ranting.

How do I sabotage this computer beyond repair? I do not want to allow them any room to blame customer neglect so it has to look as if it occured without human intervention.

Roxielove 0 Newbie Poster

I am sure there are some that will disagree with me but hopefully there is someone who can understand why I have resorted to this. This is a little embarassing, but I am confident that I am not the only person who has been victim to this.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 8600 Lap top in mid 2003. I purchased the Premium warranty for it at the time of purchase. My warranty ends March 2007 ...so not much time left.

After almost 3 years of this LEMON, I have had it. It is worth persuing litigation simply on principal alone!

I will provide history.

When computer arrived I took it out of the box: Bad Key board and mouse. Called Tech support. It was not one call...it was serveral. Try this, try that. Hold this button and reboot....round and round and round.

They sent only a key board after approx 10 days of the phone games, i installed and got machine powered up and function only enough for me to discover that the RAM was bad. It would not do anything. Kept getting the low sysem resources message and the "end program" box. Remind you...this is a BRAND NEW machine never functioned enough to be used and I had owed it 1.5 to 2 months at this point. Also i had to buy a usb mouse since that touch pad was still broken and they never sent a replacement part.

Another small detail,...I am …

Roxie, no one thinks you're dumb; it's confusing and hard to comprehend in the beginning.

As for the part about clicking on the "x" instead of "no" -- sometimes their "x" means "yes" too. The best thing to do is right-click and select Close.

Did you mean to say Spyware Buster or SpywareBlaster? I'm not familiar with the first one, but if you don't have Blaster, you should -- there is a link to it in crunchie's signature. Keep that and your Windows Updates current and you will be protected from a lot of problems.

Yes it is SpyWareBlaster. My bad. I made a mistake when I typed that. Thanks for that info. I will be right clicking and choosing Close from now on.

What the others meant is that your log shows that you are running HijackThis from within a Temp/Temporary folder ( C:\Documents and Settings\Stephanie Walker\Local Settings\Temp\HijackThis.exe in your case). I won't go into the details of why, but you should create a new and separate folder for HijackThis, and that folder should not live within/under any Temp folder.

OK- confusion cleared on that one- thanks.

Your last log showed that you had many programs open when you did your hijackthis scan, including Internet Exploler. HJT cannot perform all of the fixes it needs to if Internet Explorer is running when you attempt the fixes; you need to make sure IE is not running when you do the following, and it's a good idea to close down any other open programs as well.

In terms of the log itself, I'll let crunchie field that for you since he's already picked up on this (and also because he's in a different time zone and probably doesn't have dinner cooking right now.)

---------------------------------------------------

Ok DMR thanks I understand what you are saying about the Hijackthis being saved to a temp file. I went and saved it to my desk top now. Can someone please tell me if this is right now? Is this what is meant by saving it to a permanent file? If not I need more detailed instructions. I am a rookie so I am kinda feeling my way through this the best I can. Sorry to be …

Roxielove 0 Newbie Poster

You can't save a program to wordpad, just text documents !!!copy it to permanent folder is refering to the hijackthis.exe program you downloaded ,not the log it creates.

Yes....I did save Hijackthis pragram to a permanent file. I was referring to the log that I scanned with the Hijackthis program is what i saved to wordpad...not the program itself. Sorry for the confusion.

I am following where crunchie is going with this now. I will wait for further instructions. Thanks for all of the help!

Roxie

Roxielove 0 Newbie Poster

Ok perhaps I am very confused. Move it to a permanent folder. How do I do this? I read the instructions and they seemed very lengthy and hard to follow. I just saved it to wordpad on my hard drive.

Feeling Ditzy,
Roxie
