That is about 12.30 AM to 3AM Japan Time. I am fast asleep sucking my thumb by then.

I log in to the IRC chat sometimes at around 6AM Japan time until I go off to work. Do the math. For most of you it is the previous day.

Living in the future is lonely. :(

It doesnt matter where you put the wsock32.lib file. Just link it properly with the /link switch of your compiler. From the looks of it, you seem to be using the Visual C++ compiler. I thought the wsock32.lib file came with it by default and you wouldn't have to download it.

Anyway, if you are using the Visual Studio IDE, you can select "Add files to project" and select the wsock32.lib and build. Should work.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Seems like a link error to me. Have you properly included the object files of the TypingEditor project to your current project.

For god's sake people. Let's stop joking and wait till the OP posts his code? This is not the geek's lounge for crying out loud.

Who cares about geek lounge reputation anyway?

Even a grey coloured thanks rep from a newbie in the C/C++ forums are worth a 100 "I agree" reputation points in the geeks lounge to me.

Laughing out loud. Looking at the latest negative reputation I receieved for the above post, I think someone (I am not naming names) who takes the geeks lounge rep very seriously, as that is the only way she gets her (Yeah, you now know who) much needed reputation, is very very vexed.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Who cares about geek lounge reputation anyway? It is the reputation points and comments of Narue (has never given me anything), Salem and the rest of the regulars, that I get in the C/C++ forums that I really care about. Some of us here have no sense of humour at all.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

You should read ugh.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

As a moderator, I could see you using the "posts since last visit" link or the "posts with zero replies" link. As a member, I could see you scanning the list of threads, reading the descriptions associated with each, and clicking on what interests you.

Yeah. I tried that a long time ago, but back then even the geek lounge posts cameup in the results, so I stopped using that. I think that now that option is much more advanced so I will try it and see.

Still having a hard time understanding when someone would be surfing all the threads in a forum, one at a time. Odds are you wouldn't be interested in all of them in a row, need or want to reply to all of them in a row, etc.

No. These days not much of the threads go unanswered. So there is no need for me to reply much. But I usually read all the new replies as much as I can.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Oh, those. Yeah, we used ot have them, but I got rid of them while trying to unclutter the page because I didn't think that anyone used them.

Does anyone else want them back as well? I'd prefer to not put them back because IMO they clutter the page with two links to two pages you know nothing about. They're sorta like Google's "I'm lucky" button :)

I admit that they clutter the page. But I am asking for this as a moderator, and a regular who posts in the technical forum. As moderators we usually look at all the threads with unread posts in the forum, regardless of whether we know about it or not, and it is tiresome going back to the parent forum page and selecting another thread.

I know that this feature may not be useful for non-geeks who nevertheless use the geeks lounge to play word games only.

Maybe because nobody knows its there -- this is the first I heard of it. I probably wouldn't use it anyway even if I had because I just don't visit chatrooms.

I like chatting, and tried the Daniweb chat room an year ago. There were not many users, so I gave up. :(

Is there a way to move to the next/previous thread while viewing a particular thread? By next/previous I mean the one at the bottom and below of the currently viewing thread as displayed in the forum thread list.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

> why does the line numbers get copied when I copy the code?
Click the toggle plain text link at the bottom of code and it will remove the line numbers for easy copying.

My question was, why are the line numbers copied by default? When you select the code, the line numbers are not selected. So naturally you would expect only the selected text to be copied without the line numbers. I noticed that toggling the code worked, but I am lazy, and tend to forget to toggle the code before copying the first time, resulting in having to copy and paste the code twice.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

I like the language syntax. Although I would like if you changed the preprocessor directive colors ( #include ... )
What I don't get is, why does the line numbers get copied when I copy the code?

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Well, there are a lot of contradictions. But all I can do is have faith in my belief.

Isn't this called blind faith?

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

That behavior has been around for sometime now. You must surely be trying to use the quick reply box before the page completely loads.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

First of all this forum is for introducing yourself. Do not post technical questions here.

Second, is the above question a programming question? If it is a programming question, state the programming language you are trying to use.

Third, you will have to post the attempts you have made before asking someone to do it for you.

Oh and welcome to Daniweb!

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

As for the idea, I don't have any problem with it. But it can be subjective, like increasing or decreasing the font face or color.

As for the colors, it would be good if the colors were different instead of using different shades of the same color ( eg. Software Development and Site Management are of the same color green, but with different shades as I see it). But it doesn't look that bad.

However the IT Water cooler color ( Dark Pink/Maroon ) is a bit too strong for my canine eyes.

hehe, yeah looking through a particular thread is interesting and entertaining. I was having a good laugh yesterday doing a bit of research in each thread that generated a lot of activity the past few weeks.

Another thing that may interest you is going to a any user profile , and see who has given the latest reputation. And see if the reciever has returned the favour. :D

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Yes. I agree that Google has claimed to have got the Web Search problem solved. Even I hardly use the Yahoo or Alta Vista Search engines, and have made Google my homepage.

However, we know that Microsoft also has the ability to create some great products, so don't you think that they can improve on the yahoo searching capability from where it is today? After all, it is common knowledge that Microsoft has been trying to get into the web search market for sometime, and it will be better for them to start from where Yahoo stopped rather than start from scratch.

I also think that this will affect the Yahoo messenger, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Maps ( which is extensively used in Japan even more than Google Maps itself ).

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

I was just having a look at the BBC new headlines today morning, when the talk about Yahoo and Microsoft potentially pairing up caught my eye. Obviously this was a step taken to curb the rise of Google in the web search market, and shares of Yahoo has gone up by 14% as a result of this. What do you people think about it? Love to hear your opinions.

F5 yields the same results. From what I have seen, the last page of a thread loads fine. All the other pages give the error while loading.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

PS.

Nope. Looks like scrolling doesn't have an effect. Just waiting for the page to load gives the error in Firefox.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

yes. Once I wait till the page loads, that dialog box doesn't pop up. The dialog box pops up only if I try to scroll a web page up or down before it finishes loading in Firefox.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Yeah. Where did I say otherwise?

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Definitely Firefox Specific. Loaded the same page under Firefox, Opera and IE. Only Firefox gives the error. Seems to be something related to rendering the web page. Firefox seems to be rendering it from top to bottom (so the page is irresponsive while loading) , while Opera and IE can render it part by part depending on the value of the scroll button (Just a guess, and may be completely off the mark).

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Yeah all the above. And to add something more, it seems to be browser specific too. I am on Windows XP Professional and Opera 9.20 doesnt give the error. I will check on Internet Explorer ( I had forgotten all about that browser ) and give you the results.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Yeah, before my CentOS post, all the others were on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Well, I can reproduce the error on CentOS 4.4 Server and Firefox 2.0.0.3.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

All 3 editors give the error. I also tried on one or two blogs, and no errors so far. But those pages were not that long, with only 5 or 7 comments in each.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

No. I don't get it when I am logged in as guest. I get the error on the same web page when I am logged in as Wolfpack.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Are things improved (do a hard refresh)?

If you mean, has the script hangs stopped? No, one occurred just now.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Yes. Just use the -o option of gcc.

g++ -c function.cpp -o <PATH_OF_FOLDER>/OBJECTNAME.o

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Thanks for your reply,
I have another question can you tell me the difference between endl and '\n'

link.

and why I cant convert ** to a const char ** and * to a const char *&?

What are you trying to do here? All these asterisks are confusing me.
Post the code that you are trying to compile.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

So it only happens when you try to scroll the page before it finishes loading? Hmm ... what platforms are you guys using?

I can usually reproduce it easily when trying to scroll a page before it finishes loading. Don't know what happens if I just let the page load before scrolling. I can't seem to acquire that habit.

I am using Windows Server 2003 (Japanese) and Firefox 1.5.0.11( Also Japanese) at work,
and
Windows XP Professional SP2 ( English ) and firefox latest (Also English ) at home.

Oh ... also, what pages does this happen on? Is it just on long thread pages, for example, or on all pages?

Yeah I have seen it only on long pages.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

Hey, Dani nice layout. :)
But Kevin's problem occurs at my end too. Infact it occurred the first time I logged in to Daniweb this morning.
I am using a 12 MB link at home, and god knows what at work. The unresponsive script dialog box occurs at both places.

Also, I have noticed that the fast loading of pages does not happen since the new layout went live. The unresponsive script error occurs when I try to scroll the page before it finishes loading.

Oh and I dont use an adblocker, and the ads are disabled from the control panel. It occurs when enabled or disabled.

WolfPack 491 Posting Virtuoso Team Colleague

I did. Wiki says that

Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name.
