i had the same issue then ran the 'sfc / scannow' function to re-copy my XP SP2 cd files in case any dll's etc had corrupt. I then went to microsoft to download all the latest patches again. All fine for me. Start > Run > (type) sfc / scannow …

try get your hands on a 'universal XP driver pack' cd. Then update your device manager with drivers from that cd. *those cd's have around 10k drivers and cover all the different manufacturers.

If you have a PC and the original Windows XP setup disk then I advise you to slipstream SP2 and [B]driverpacks[/B]. Burn the ISO and reinstall XP again on the laptop. The driverpack covers over 98% of satadrives and you can also add LAN, graphics, chipset, wlan and other drivers …
