Okay I will now explain why exactly this thing is starting to bite everyone. No one minds a bit of fun and frolic -- after all each of us needs a break.

So what does someone come up with ? He / She comes up with a funky game for passing our time. But look and behold -- now everyone wants to come up with his own little contraption -- a new game of which he would be a owner. Enter the proliferation of games -- three word story, music association game, three word game, yes or no etc etc. So where does this leave us? A page full of games? Again, no one minds fun, but anything in excess is harmful / abnormal, even love !!

The powers have been taken away by the moderators to a great extent, they don't have power they used to have, otherwise most of the threads would have got deleted for lack of sensible context. Come to think of it, its rather surprising none of the Geek's Lounge moderators have posted even once in this or the related threads !!

Um, not to sound like an idiot (or a jerk), but how exactly does one give negative rep? Whenever I click on someone's 'add to [name] reputation] in a thread, I get a screen with a single, checked radio button saying 'I approve' and a comment box. Given that there doesn't seem to be any way to disapprove(can't uncheck the button, after all)...am I just cluelessly missing something here that should be blindingly obvious?

Handing out negative reps by normal members have been temporarily disabled by Dani. As of now, only Team Colleagues, Moderators etc. can negative rep.

But considering a thing like 'Geeks Lounge' exists in all professional forums where people hang out and discuss non-tech things, plus, with the site rules by their side, I am not sure anything can be as such 'legally' done against them.

No. For intelligent, respectful members bad rep is useful when they say something they probably shouldn't. For immature jerks, they'll just spaz out no matter what. And I'd really like to see who gave good rep. I could put them on my Christmas Card list...

Everyone has his own view point. Thomas has his own, I have my own and you have yours. I don't believe in 'shooing' off kids if thats what you are asking. I have no problems with you people posting in word games and what not.

Its just that it is good to comply with the request of senior posters once in a while. Why not try to write properly and avoid l33t speak altogether? Its not that you have anything to lose.

It takes 10 infraction points to ban someone. L33t speak fetches you 5 if you are persistent and don't care about the moderator warnings.

You should not, its not that they are doing it on purpose. Everyone here tries to help out people who are in real need of help but can't express it rather than people who choose to type improperly just because they want to.

I'll rephrase: I will use "lol"'s and:D's to establish communication with someone that practices that kind of posting, although I do not use often emoticons and lol-kind-of-abbreviations.
