I am taking Java next year but am wondering whether C++ is more difficult than Java?

Probably more lengthy to learn. Difficulty depends on your motivation.

I would say c++ is a little harder to learn because of the lack of helpful docs. Java's API docs are the best when compared to other language help files. Aside from that, I don't see any real difficulty challenges, but it depends what you want to learn to do with the language.
