Hello. I am not new to the wonderful site - Just lost login credentials

I am resuming work via Python and must make some installs into my Lib.

I am having trouble with this - I have not used Python in 2-3 years.

Many syntax errors. This is from install snips I got from a Python site.

I need to install easyinstall and scrapy.

For easyinstall I enter and run:

#!python
"""Bootstrap setuptools installation

If you want to use setuptools in your package's setup.py, just include this
file in the same directory with it, and add this to the top of your setup.py::

    from ez_setup import use_setuptools
    use_setuptools()

If you want to require a specific version of setuptools, set a download
mirror, or use an alternate download directory, you can do so by supplying
the appropriate options to ``use_setuptools()``.

This file can also be run as a script to install or upgrade setuptools.

I'm confused, honestly.

I do not have trouble coding, but setting up an environment I can find a bit tricky at times.

Any hints/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Yesterday, I received the same uninformative message.

On studying the apparently official setuptools install script the o.p. posted, I found a double negative.

In the o.p.s code, line 66 in _install:

if not _python_cmd('setup.py', 'install', *install_args):
       log.warn('Something went wrong during the installation.')
       log.warn('See the error message above.')
       # exitcode will be 2
       return 2

but line 37 in _python_cmd tests for failure:

return subprocess.call(args) == 0

which returns 0 (False) when subprocess.call(args) succeeds.

At that point, the calling test in line 66 fails because the test in line 37 is backward. When I changed line 37 to:

return subprocess.call(args) == 1 # HG 2014-01-20

the setuptools install script ran without error.

Iron python, which requires easy_install, runs correctly after being installed with the edited script.

Running Windows 7, Python 2.7.6 on an ASUS netbook.

Best,
