How to process an email??

Hello,

I was wondering if it would be possible for someone to point me in the rgth direction of how to read emails using PHP?

What I am wanting to do is have people send me an email. In the email will be an image and some text.

I want to be able to get the attachment and the text and post them to my website.

I dont want a prewritten script or anything as I would like to do this myself but what I do as is where do I start?

Is there a function to read mail like there is a send function?

If anyone can point me on the correct road for me to start this it would be great.
