How to create a Forum No New Posts/New Posts Thread system?

Help please, I want to make a system so that when a thread hasn't been viewed by you, or if there are new posts in a thread that you haven't read, it will show "Unread", but when you view the new posts, or view the thread, it will show "Read" for your account until someone else posts there. Help please :)

Is there any reason as to why you can't use one of the forum systems that already exist out there?
