About a month ago our developer changed the URL for all the programmed pages; before they were all **/x_y/**somepage.aspx?a=1&b=2&z=7&h= for example and that was changed to **/y/**somepage.aspx?foo=bar&b= (the relevant part being the first section in bold). However all the pages are still accessible via /x_y/... (which is the actual name of the directory on the server). Therefore, we have a duplicate URL problem there for all pages. In Google Analytics we're seeing both versions of any given page. So how to clean this up? Would specifying a canonical URL (link rel="canonical" tag in head) do the trick? Is there any …

I'm attempting to use Gogole Analytics event tracking to track browser viewport size. I'm using event tracking already in a bunch of other user-initiated places with jQuery and everthing works fine. This doesn't seem to be working though: I have this at the bottom of my html page: <script type="text/javascript"> <!-- $(function() { _gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'Viewport Width', $(window).width(), $(window).width() + 'x' + $(window).height(), 0, true]); _gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'Viewport Height', $(window).height(), $(window).width() + 'x' + $(window).height(), 0, true]); }); //--> </script> Not quite sure why nothing is being registered in Google Analytics. Half the day and nothing tracked. Also, Google analytics has Real-Time …

hi, i add [standart](https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/methods/gaJSApiEcommerce) google ecommerce code to my page. Everything works fine, just source value always is my plain domain. How to get the normal sources, or set it? In short, how to get a reference to my purchase of the script, from where people came to shop. Thanks

Hi There, I'm trying to get an accurate count of the pdf downloads from our website, both from clicks within the site and also from within emails and linkedin posts. However, it's obvious that google analytics isn't able to count direct downloads, so we've been looking at the webalizer stats for what we were hoping might be a more accurate count. The figures are vastly higher though: 20 downloads according to ga, and 40,000 according to webalizer. So, what I'm wondering is how accurate are the webalizer stats for pdf downloads? I know overall web visit counts are bloated, but …

Here's my problem: - I have a static site with Google Analytics tracking code. - To buy one of my services, users call me, and when their order is ready (many days later), I send them an e-mail link to a special page (download.php) where I have GA tracking code that is executed the first time they visit, so I track a "sale". - The issue is, GA thinks that "sale" was a separate visit, and erroneously shows that only direct visits to my site result in sales. I don't understand how I can view stats (Pages / Visit, Avg. …

As internet marketers, we need to measure the stickiness value and engagmenet level of visitors to a site. Thus, many companies have used Google Analytics in the past few years since it is FREE. But there were other companies who preferred to still use paid tools like WebTrends, Omniture, and Coremetrics to mention a few. Thus, I found it interested that on the Forrester blog it mentioned: "The merits of free are compelling.Web analytics tools, 66% would consider displacing them with a free alternative. While the primary driver for this consideration is cost, 60% of enterprises are more likely to …

**The problem:** Our "thankyou" page (goal page) is not recording all of our conversions. For instance, our analytics account is showing 19 conversions for yesterday, but we actually had 34 conversions. **The situation and the Code:** Our thankyou page is being called dynamically from the checkout page through a jquery/ajax call when the user clicks "complete order". The script sends the form data via an ajax post. A successful response returns the html for the thankyou page, which contains a summary of the customers order along with the conversion code. The conversion code is run through a jquery function, $.globalEval(), …

Is anyone else seeing this?! There's a little musical note icon next to my Google Analytics charts, and when I click on it, Analytics "plays" my graph with synthesized piano tunes! I think this is the most useless, ridiculous feature ever to come out of Google.

Or for every webpage, we shall create a unique web Property and thus a unique code. Please advice, If i use the same code for many inner pages of a websites, How will I know that which page has How much Traffic, or Google analytic s will show that also?

Hi, I am writing a blog post for my blog. I want to know whether Google scores sites for their performance. I have heard that it is good to add Google analytics to analysis website. Google can directly know which website is better by analyzing bounce rate, conversion rate and many other factors. Google also track RSS feed stats, social metrics. So I want information with reference really Google track site's performance.

Hello, I just revamped a website and rather experimented including absolutely all <head > contents within a single .php file, including google analytics. But I am a little confused now reading the analytics for my website and I wonder if google analytics, being fed to all the pages from a common php file, is still able to recognize the different pages of the website. Is it? or should I paste the block of analytics code inside every webpage instead of feeding it from a php file? Sorry for some people this question looks like it insists upon itself, but other …

I want to get information about visitors like what is the referring page, what is their geolocation, what browser they are using etc. There are several web analytics software available for that. I prefer piwik web analytics. Before using piwik in my website, I want to know whether the visitors like or dislike the use of tracking code in webpages. If the users dislike, I will not use any analytics software. Suppose you are a visitor of my website. How will you feel if you know that you are being tracked? Which one of the following is your answer? 1) …

[B]Context[/B] I'm retrieving data from Google Analytics (via the python-googleanalytics library, as Google's API is way too complex for me right now) and putting that data into a table using an HTML library. Python experience: very low. [B]Problem[/B] I have this: [u'string', u'string'] [integer] [u'string', u'string'] [integer] [u'string', u'string'] [integer] [u'string', u'string'] [integer] [u'string', u'string'] [integer] The strings end up in a table column together and the integers in a table column. That's what I want. However, I don't want it to show any of the punctuation marks or the unicode u, just the bare strings and integers, but still …

I don’t write articles much anymore, but today I felt that this really deserved to be written about. A Website software called Clicktale is quite creepy. What Is Clicktale? Clicktale, is a product designed to record everything you do on a Webpage to the website owner who has paid for the service. Only Websites that use clicktale's JavaScript are recorded. However Clicktale does make it very clear that your use of the site will be revoked if you do not exclude information that is deemed sensitive by Clicktale such as Social Security Numbers, Credit card numbers, etc. If you do …

Hi, I'm creating a simple analytics script to use on my website(s). I started of very simply by just creating a new record for every session, and updating the sessions (i.e. incrementing the number of pageloads for that session) when a new page is loaded. I also save the browser/version and platform the visitor is using. This works fine as it is, though it is not really efficient in any way. I've tested the script with a few (say 20 or so) records in the table, but I don't think everything will run as smoothly as it does now when …

The Florida State Department of Juvenile Justice is following in the footsteps of the Ministry of Justice, one of the largest UK government departments with in excess of 95,000 employees and a budget of some £9 billion, by employing IBM predictive analytics tech to assess prisoner re-offending risk and ultimately protect the public at large from the dangers that repeat offenders pose.
